Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI on a full-time basis. The Role The Team Leader reports to an Engineering Group Leader and is responsible for leading the Engineering Maintenance and Technical Support (EMT) team’s day-to-day operations. The EMT team supports the laboratories by specifying, sourcing, engineering, integrating, and safely commissioning test equipment, while also developing and sustaining a robust maintenance model. This role plays a critical role in ensuring the quality, durability, and performance of General Motors vehicles and related products.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in engineering maintenance, technical support, or test equipment operations within a laboratory or industrial environment
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience applying Lean tools and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., GM Manufacturing System principles)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Strong interest in the vehicle development and validation process
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously in a complex, fast‑paced environment while managing multiple priorities and deliverables with minimal supervision
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory or test equipment used in vehicle, powertrain, emissions, or component testing
  • Experience working with test automation systems and controls
  • Experience collaborating with equipment suppliers and installation contractors from specification through commissioning
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team across engineering, operations, and supplier partners

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ years of experience in engineering maintenance, technical support, or test equipment operations within a laboratory or industrial environment
  • Previous experience supporting Emissions or Energy Systems laboratories, including Milford‑based Emissions ISG experience
  • Associate degree (2‑year) in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Experience developing, implementing, or sustaining equipment maintenance processes in an industrial or laboratory setting
  • Working knowledge of traditional product development, validation, and release timing, including key milestones and methodologies
  • Experience working in an ISO 17025 and/or ISO 9001 accredited environment

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on Engineering Maintenance and Technical Support activities, including day‑to-day operations and select future planning initiatives
  • Lead and manage day‑to-day team activities by estimating timelines, setting priorities, and balancing workloads based on skillsets, while identifying opportunities to expand team capabilities
  • Monitor ongoing work and provide regular status updates to stakeholders and leadership, proactively identifying, escalating, and resolving risks or roadblocks
  • Lead and support projects to specify, source, engineer, integrate, install, and safely commission new test equipment
  • Act as a technical subject‑matter resource for internal teams and external suppliers across all aspects of Engineering Maintenance and Technical Support
  • Develop, implement, and sustain preventative maintenance systems and related equipment maintenance plans
  • Maintain awareness of emerging test equipment technologies, including commissioning requirements, safe operating procedures, and ongoing maintenance needs
  • Stay aligned with product forecasts and broader Product Development plans to ensure future test equipment and methods enable safe, on‑time, and high‑quality vehicle validation
  • Represent the laboratories within the broader Product Development organization, as needed
