About The Position

The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time, 48-week position, rank open, in the Penn State World Campus Masters of Social Work (MSW) program. This successful applicant will serve as the program’s Field Director. The position includes both teaching and field coordination. The applicant will also collaborate with other MSW faculty in program development and operation. We are specifically seeking applicants with expertise in Applied/Professional/Direct Human Services, including but not limited to social work/counseling, community-based education, and human service programs. Specific competencies critical to success include excellent verbal and written communication skills, a team-oriented collaborative approach, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ability to work with traditional and non-traditional students and students from diverse backgrounds, and knowledge of innovative, best practices in pedagogy. The Field Director will be responsible for administering the social work field education program and participating in the development of the broader MSW curriculum. Knowledge of social work curricula and how field instruction is integrated into the curriculum of a CSWE accredited program is essential. This 48-week, term faculty appointment funded for one year from the date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.

Requirements

  • MSW degree (DSW or PhD preferred) from a CSWE accredited program
  • At least three years post MSW degree direct social work practice experience
  • A social work license (LCSW)
  • 3+ years of supervision experience of MSW students
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A team-oriented collaborative approach
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with traditional and non-traditional students and students from diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of innovative, best practices in pedagogy
  • Knowledge of social work curricula and how field instruction is integrated into the curriculum of a CSWE accredited program

Responsibilities

  • Identifying and recruiting field placement sites and instructors
  • Developing and reviewing policies, procedures, and objectives for field placement
  • Monitoring placed students and coordinating with field instructors as needed
  • Developing and implementing an integrative field seminar
  • Assigning final grades for students in field education
  • Participating in the CSWE accreditation process
  • Developing and providing internship training experiences to agency field supervisors
  • Teaching social work courses at the undergraduate and graduate level
  • Development of new courses
  • Developing and/or adapting new approaches to existing web-based courses
  • Service related to the growth and development of the MSW program
