About The Position

Westlake Academy is a K-12 open-enrollment public charter school operated by the Town of Westlake, Texas. The Academy is committed to academic excellence and global-mindedness through its International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. GENERAL JOB SUMMARY Westlake Academy is seeking qualified and enthusiastic candidates to join the 5 th Grade team. Faculty members are expected to uphold the principles of the IB curriculum while fostering a rigorous, engaging, and student-centered learning environment.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas Teacher Certification in ESL is preferred.
Selected candidates who do not hold a valid certification must obtain appropriate certification or credential within one year of hire to be considered for continued employment.
Strong understanding of the IB philosophy and its emphasis on inquiry, international-mindedness, and academic rigor
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to engage students in meaningful and innovative learning experience
Continually strives to improve classroom methods, teaching techniques, increase knowledge of content subject matter, and interpersonal relationships.
Effectively displays the ability to work collaboratively with others consistently
Utilize effective communication skills to present information accurately and
Display strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal
Accept and implement constructive feedback in a professional
Utilize technology to strengthen the teaching/learning
Able to maintain confidential information pertaining to students, employees, volunteers, and the general operations of Westlake Academy.
Able to exhibit a growth mindset in executing the rigorous IB framework.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in Education or related field
Knowledge of International Baccalaureate (IB) programs

Responsibilities

Collaborates regularly with the IB coordinators and teachers to design, implement, and reflect on IB unit planners and reflect on concept-based inquiry practices.
Effectively integrates digital tools to support inquiry.
Communicates regularly and appropriately with parents/guardians regarding their child’s classroom performance; develops methods in support of classroom goals and teacher expectations in the home
Maintains professional relationship and communication with parents, students, and campus personnel; ensures that all interactions are supportive, courteous, and respectful.
Complies with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
Participate in professional development activities that are aligned with campus goals, assigned areas of responsibility, and the varied needs of students.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as
Demonstrates strong technology proficiency to enhance teaching and learning.
Assists in the proctoring of state and internal
Assists with educational visits relevant to their classes or
Performs other duties, as assigned by the PYP Principal, Principal, or Head of School.
