About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for a School Educator II (Working Title: Teacher of the Visually Impaired) for our Office of Exceptional Children, Sensory Support and Assistive Technology Section, Early Learning Sensory Support Program. The Office of Exceptional Children provides general supervision, professional learning, and technical assistance to all local education agencies, including charter schools, state operated programs, the innovative school district, lab schools, and other state agencies and approved private agencies that provide special education to children and youth classified as disabled. The Early Learning Sensory Support Program for Children with Hearing and Vision Impairments (ELSSP) within the SSAT section is a statewide early intervention/educational program supporting infants and toddlers ages birth to three, their families, and the providers who work with them through the provision of direct instruction and consultation. The primary purpose of the position is to provide itinerant, early intervention to children eligible to receive special education and related services for vision loss under Parts C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The position primarily serves children ages birth to three years of age. The position is required to serve children in their home, daycare, and/or public school. This position is remote-based, 12-months and requires up to 80% travel. This position requires access to reliable internet to conduct business using web-based platforms. Requirements

  • Minimally qualified applicants must have an active NC teaching license.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented experience in public education teaching children birth to 2 and/or 3-21.
  • Documented experience with federal and/or state special education policies, practices, and/or procedures (e.g. IDEA Parts B and/or C)
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing and/or managing web-based applications and/or databases (e.g. Microsoft Office software, Google, Apple software)
  • Possession of a Birth to Kindergarten Certification issued by the NC Dept. of Public Instruction and an Infant Toddler Credential issued through the NC Dept. of Public Health.
  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist.

Responsibilities
