Requirements

Knowledge of: Special education programs for visually-impaired students.
Methods and strategies for assessing and teaching visually-impaired students from birth through age 21.
Current special education laws, regulations, and case law.
Braille instruction.
Ability to: Work effectively with visually-impaired students.
Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and related agencies.
Plan teaching strategies and set appropriate objectives to enhance access to the core curriculum and meet state standards.
Analyze and evaluate assessments and diagnostic information.
Express ideas effectively both verbally and in writing, including writing summaries, evaluations, and reports.
Design and conduct in-service training for district staff and parents.
Explore, develop, and implement public and community program options.

Responsibilities

Assist parents in understanding their children's abilities and disabilities using appropriate assessment tools and goal development. (Essential)
Stay current with clinical, theoretical, and educational research as well as state and federal regulations for visually-impaired programs. (Essential)
Provide in-service education about programs for the visually impaired to district personnel and parents. (Essential)
Attend staff meetings and in-services as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
