About The Position

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is seeking a Teacher 1 for Adult Basic Education/GED. Requirements

  • Possess a Baccalaureate degree & an Adult Educator four year permit and/or be eligible to receive a four-year permit from the Ohio Department of Education
  • Any current Teacher Certificate appropriate grade level to be assigned; Teacher 1, 71721, must also have baccalaureate degree or less
  • Job Skills: Education, Developing Others, Emotional Intelligence, Cultural Awareness, Customer Focus
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment urinalysis drug test, including for marijuana
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Not be under a federal or state weapons disability if the position requires firearms certification/recertification and use
  • Not have engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other confinement facility; have been civilly or administratively adjudicated, or convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, implied threats of force, or if the victim did not or was unable to consent
  • Not be convicted of soliciting or providing support for an act of terrorism, terrorism, or money laundering to support terrorism
  • Not have been convicted of or pled guilty to a felony where a direct correlation exists between the position and prior criminal behavior
  • Adherence to the State of Ohio drug-free workplace policy, prohibiting the use of marijuana (recreational marijuana/non-medical cannabis)

Responsibilities

  • Develops lesson plans to address those needs to include individualized training for assignments
  • Provides necessary instruction for Adult Basic Education/General Education Development program
  • Administers necessary tests
  • Evaluate inmates provides necessary direction for inmates
  • Maintains discipline and/or security of instructional area
  • Attends education meetings, unit staff meetings and in-service training
  • Prepares required records and reports
  • Maintains inventory and orders supplies and materials needed
  • Performs other education and/or related duties as requested by education administrators
  • Performs other duties as required on assignment
