Life as an R&D Co-Op: The R&D Innovative Medicine Co-Op program provides each student with real-life hands-on experience, coaching and mentoring, networking opportunities, as well as the opportunity to meet people from various schools throughout the country. Each intern will be assigned to a single function with a specific project for the 6-month term.

Requirements

  • Biology, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Immunology, and related majors are preferred
  • Candidates must be actively enrolled in an accredited University for the duration of an internship assignment pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree (or equivalent experience).
  • For students pursuing their Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, candidates must have completed their sophomore year.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.8 is required.
  • Candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and must not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g., FI, H1-B status)
  • Candidates that have prior experience with spectroscopy (Raman, IR, NIR), chromatography, MS and/or chemometric modeling, and machine/deep learning
  • Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future.
  • Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team to design and execute experiments, and also measure with sensors and analytical instruments (such as Raman, IR, NIR, and LC-MS) to develop multivariate data analysis and models (chemometrics, ML/DL) in support of process understanding in bioproduction
  • Prepare, test and conduct DOE samples for statistical analysis of complex biological sources
  • Participate and collaborate closely with a team to optimize and validate the model to facilitate the application of in-situ analytical effort in workflows
  • Receive hands-on experience running PAT instruments and data science tools
  • Communicate the work to internal research groups as directed
