Life as an R&D Co-Op: The R&D Innovative Medicine Co-Op program provides each student with real-life hands-on experience, coaching and mentoring, networking opportunities, as well as the opportunity to meet people from various schools throughout the country. Each intern will be assigned to a single function with a specific project for the 6-month term.

Requirements

  • Biology, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biological Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and related majors are preferred
  • Candidates must be actively enrolled in an accredited University for the duration of an internship assignment pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s.
  • For students pursuing their Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, candidates must have completed their sophomore year.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.8 is required.
  • Candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and must not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g., FI, H1-B status)
  • Candidates that conduct good general lab practices such as pipetting, clean/tidy workspaces, proper PPE and safety, weighing on balances, measuring/handling solutions, data integrity, etc.
  • Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future.
  • Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • The Co-Op will work on investigating the impact of viscosity and scattering effects on protein concentration determination method performance.
  • Evaluate the impact that viscosity and scattering have while measuring protein concentrations via traditional UV spectroscopy and variable pathlength spectroscopy
  • Analyze the content measurements of several available molecules spanning numerous formulations and concentrations
  • Perform viscosity and particle size assessments of samples and examine the data for correlations that could explain variability that is commonly observed during development
  • Collaborate on project work with Drug Product Development & Design colleagues, gaining cross-functional insight.
  • Conduct a summary presentation (oral or poster based) for the AD Separation Sciences department
  • Provide input to study design, study execution, data collection and analysis, and documentation in electronic lab notebooks
