About The Position

Tax Reconciliation Specialist - Remote Opportunity (must be local to the Plantation, FL office; may be required to occasionally work in office) Pay starting at $58,000 per year We are seeking to add a Tax Reconciliation Specialist to our team! This role is a remote opportunity but must have the flexibility to occasionally work in office at our Plantation, FL location. The Tax Reconciliation Specialist ensures surplus lines taxes, stamping fees, and related state filings are accurate, complete, and compliant across all states where we operate. This role is a key part of our internal controls, helping confirm that what we file, pay, and record in our general ledger matches state requirements. You’ll work closely with tax filers, the Team Lead, and the Supervisor to spot discrepancies, resolve issues with state stamping offices, and keep everything audit-ready. This position plays a critical role after filings are complete, including verifying accuracy, preparing payments, and resolving any issues that come up.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 3–5 years of experience with state surplus lines taxes, stamping fees, and filing/payment processes
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS) and reconciliation processes
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cross-functionally

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile surplus lines taxes, stamping fees, and related charges by state
  • Compare: General ledger amounts vs. state filings, Filed amounts vs. payments made, Taxes vs. stamping fees vs. other applicable fees
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies, identifying root causes and coordinating fixes
  • Document reconciliation issues clearly for audit and compliance purposes
  • Monitor trends and recurring issues to help identify systemic problems
  • Prepare and submit accurate tax and fee payment requests
  • Ensure payments are properly supported and aligned with state requirements
  • Work with the Business Taxes Team Lead to confirm payments are issued and applied correctly
  • Validate that payments posted in the general ledger match state confirmations
  • Coordinate corrections or amended filings with filers when needed
  • Assist with resolving penalties, interest, or late filing/payment issues
  • Maintain clear, audit-ready reconciliation documentation
  • Support internal and external audits by providing schedules, explanations, and supporting details
  • Escalate complex or high-risk issues to the Business Taxes Supervisor when necessary
