Compass is seeking a Tax Manager – Indirect Tax and Credits and Incentives to join our Finance & Accounting team in Dallas, Texas; this is an on-site role. Job Overview: Tax Manager – Indirect Tax and Credits and Incentives will report to VP, Corporate Tax within the Finance & Accounting team. The ideal candidate would have tax manager level experience with US sales tax and global indirect taxes, such as value-added tax (VAT) and/or goods and services tax (GST). The ideal candidate will have experience with implementing and maintaining accounting for indirect taxes in the corporate setting as well as a strong compliance background to ensure timely completion of regulatory filings. The ideal candidate will have extensive audit experience and familiarity with communicating with tax authorities and auditors. The Tax Manager – Indirect Tax and Credits and Incentives will be expected to develop strong working relationships within the Corporate Accounting and Construction Accounting teams. This role will work closely with the VP, Corporate Tax to head the indirect tax function for the Company.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Accounting, Tax or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years overall professional experience.
  • Corporate tax department experience working with all levels of US and international outsourced. compliance, including working with third party tax advisors and consultants.
  • Experience participating in sales tax audits or audits by other tax jurisdictions preferred.
  • Experience performing tax research and writing technical memorandums.
  • ERP/Financial systems experience a plus (NetSuite).
  • Use of AI to enhance indirect tax compliance function and reporting.
  • Corporate accounting skills, such as journal entry preparation.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including using SUM and VLOOKUP functions, formatting, working with Pivot tables and experience manipulating large columns of data.
  • Adapting to fast-paced, changing environment and technology.
  • Capability to work for extended periods to meet key deadlines on unique projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as part of a high-performance team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization, devotion to accuracy and data integrity.

  • CPA or MBA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accurate and timely filing of sales tax/value-added tax returns for all applicable tax jurisdictions within the US, Canada, and Europe.
  • Compile, analyze, and detail review of sales and use tax/value added tax returns, managing compliance with vendors and global audit responses.
  • Lead sales tax/value-added examinations, including gathering requested documentation, risk identification and mitigation, day-to-day audit management.
  • Coordination with the Tax Manager overseeing the credits and incentive programs to facilitate a standard process for credits and incentive reviews of qualification requirements, and preparation and review of annual reporting required for various credit and incentive programs.
  • Improve or implement indirect tax processes or process improvements.
  • Assist with analysis of complex business transactions to determine planning opportunities and ultimate tax consequences.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with changing tax laws and provide input on changes that could affect the Company’s tax posture.
  • Coordinate with multiple engagement teams in multiple jurisdictions (North America and Europe).
  • Complete additional tasks and projects assigned by department leaders.
