The Vermont Department of Taxes seeks an organized customer friendly, individual to work in the office at our front window area assisting taxpayers within person questions, reviewing returns, taking phone calls and assisting taxpayers through email. This position will work closely with Vermont Department of Taxes staff, taxpayers, and many other state agencies and towns. Key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

Requirements

• Licensure as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) AND two (2) years or more of professional level experience in tax examination, accounting, auditing or business administration.
• OR
• Bachelor's degree or higher AND one (1) year or more of professional level experience in tax examination, accounting, auditing or business administration.
• OR
• Associate's degree with courses in accounting, finance, business administration, taxation AND three (3) years or more of professional level experience in tax examination, accounting, auditing or business administration.
• OR
• Two (2) year or more of experience as a Tax Examiner III.

Nice To Haves

• Extension tax knowledge
• Experience in business or fiscal duties.
• Knowledge of local government.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate challenging topics to individuals with varied backgrounds.
• A desire to continue to learn and grow.

Responsibilities

• Providing support to taxpayers through both phone, emails and in person.
• Reviewing returns for accuracy and correcting mistakes or requesting information.
• Working collaboratively with other staff to ensure deadlines are met.
