About The Position

AURA's mission is to provide innovative, open resources to enable discovery and excellence in research, to unify the astrophysics communities, and to promote public understanding of our universe and the benefits of science exploration. AURA carries out its role through its astronomical facilities. This is a 60‑day fixed‑term contract role, working onsite in Tucson, AZ.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 1–3 years of experience in sourcing, recruiting or a related administrative role.
  • Proficiency with sourcing tools, ATS platforms, and professional networking sites.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage candidates and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills; able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience with current recruiting practices, sourcing trends, and candidate engagement strategies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting technical or scientific recruiting.
  • Prior experience in a fast‑paced HR or recruiting support role.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively source prospective candidates using various platforms, including job boards, social media, professional networks, Boolean search, and internal database mining.
  • Build targeted talent pipelines for multiple recruiters across diverse positions and departments.
  • Conduct initial outreach to active and passive talent, generating interest in open roles and future opportunities.
  • Screen candidates at a high level to assess alignment with job requirements before routing to recruiters.
  • Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date candidate profiles and sourcing notes in the Applicant Tracking System (ATS).
  • Assist recruiters with interview coordination, including scheduling candidate interviews, arranging onsite visit logistics, and communicating details to hiring teams.
  • Prepare and manage candidate materials, interview packets, and documentation.
  • Track candidate movement and update ATS workflows as directed.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Recruitment Manager and recruiting team as needed.
  • Partner with Recruiters and Recruiting Manager to understand recruiting needs and refine sourcing strategies.
  • Support employer branding efforts through consistent engagement and representation.
  • Communicate professionally with candidates, internal stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Adhere to government award terms and conditions relevant to this role as outlined in the Vela Award Management system
  • All AURA employees are responsible for the proper management and control of all AURA property within their work area, whether assigned to them or someone else. This responsibility includes reporting any known missing, stolen, or non-working property in their work area to their supervisor or the AURA Property Officer.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with government award terms and conditions assigned to this position or subordinates of this position.
