About The Position

The Talent and Culture Manager at Ferrum College is responsible for developing and implementing human resources strategies that foster a positive campus culture, enhance employee engagement, and support the College’s strategic goals. This role leads efforts in talent acquisition, performance management, ADA coordination, and cultural initiatives that align with Ferrum College's values and mission. The position also leverages data-driven insights, operational best practices, and strategic collaboration to attract, retain, and develop faculty, staff, and administrators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required or 10+ years of HR experience in the field of recruitment.
  • Demonstrated HR experience with full-cycle recruitment across senior- and entry-level positions and organizational culture initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of labor laws, HR best practices, and performance management in the workplace.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Talent Acquisition, Retention & Onboarding Lead full-cycle recruitment for faculty, staff, and administrative positions, ensuring a high-quality candidate experience.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies that attract and retain talented individuals aligned with the College’s mission and culture.
  • Manage job postings, advertising, and sourcing across appropriate platforms, including higher education networks and community outreach.
  • Collaborate with department heads, supervisors, and leadership to assess staffing needs and develop targeted recruitment plans.
  • Conduct interviews, reference checks, and evaluation scoring; maintain accurate documentation in the College’s HR systems.
  • Facilitate the onboarding process for new hires, including: New hire orientation Paperwork processing and benefits enrollment assistance Issuance of ID cards and campus access Coordination with IT, Marketing & Communications, and Compliance Announcement of new hires to relevant departments
  • Oversee the College’s performance management processes, including evaluation scheduling, documentation, and feedback tracking.
  • Partner with supervisors and leadership to design and deliver professional development programs and training initiatives.
  • Mentor HR staff and department liaisons to support effective recruitment and talent management practices.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and manage HR data in systems such as Colleague (employee records and evaluations), Empyrean (benefits), and E-Verify (employment eligibility).
  • Track and analyze HR metrics and recruitment KPIs to guide strategy and reporting to leadership.
  • Work with Sr. Director to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as College policies.
  • Represent Ferrum College at career fairs, university events, and community engagement opportunities to build talent pipelines.
  • Serve as the College’s ADA Coordinator, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local disability laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with employees, and campus leadership to address accessibility needs and reasonable accommodations.
  • Work closely with the President, the Chief of Staff, the Sr. HR Director and legal counsel to review and implement policies, procedures, and accommodation requests.
  • Maintain confidential records of ADA requests, accommodations, and related communications in compliance with legal and institutional requirements.
  • Provide training and guidance to faculty, staff, and supervisors on ADA compliance and best practices.
  • Act as a resource for ensuring campus facilities, programs, and communications are accessible and inclusive for all community members.
  • Collaborate with College leadership to align HR strategies with institutional goals and workforce planning.
  • Provide insights into higher education staffing trends and best practices to strengthen recruitment and retention outcomes.
  • Drive process improvements to enhance HR operational efficiency and employee experience.
  • Design and implement initiatives to strengthen campus culture and engagement among employees.
  • Manage employee recognition programs that celebrate contributions and foster morale.
  • Coordinate campus-wide engagement events for employees, families, and the broader College community.
  • Work with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Staff Council to conduct surveys to assess employee needs, interests, and satisfaction, and provide actionable insights.
  • Be a strong advocate and representative of Ferrum College to enhance the College’s employer brand and reputation within higher education and the local community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support College operations and the mission.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability as responsibilities evolve to meet institutional needs.
