About The Position

As a Systems Engineering Intern for Scenario Taxonomy, you'll help make Nuro AI Driver safer and more reliable. You'll work with experts in systems, robotics, data infrastructure, compliance, and safety to improve our validation process related to scenario specifications and test coverage. You will be involved in specifying and validating the taxonomy that is used in development, V&V, and safety assessment.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelors, masters, or doctoral degree in engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, or related field.
  • Past evidence of strong analytical and systems-thinking skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand and work within existing taxonomy efforts, including database structures and storage.
  • Strong communication skills - both verbal and written.
  • Experience driving a motorized vehicle on public roads in the US, in any capacity.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to apply systems engineering concepts of requirements, verification and validation.
  • Basic understanding of autonomous vehicle technology, especially sensors and perception and classification capabilities.
  • Familiarity with the capabilities and limitations of simulation.
  • Detailed understanding of driving rules/regulations and/or traffic engineering.
  • Ability to write code in Python and write basic data queries.
  • Experience with configuration management tools for requirements, documentation, and software.

Responsibilities

  • Help specify and decompose the hierarchical scenario space into a scenario taxonomy for L4 autonomous vehicles.
  • Identify and design key features of the Scenario Taxonomy, taking into account system capabilities and stakeholder requirements.
  • Assess the Scenario Taxonomy against the system's ODD for data correctness/accuracy, for sufficiency in identifying failure modes, and against standards and industry best practices.
  • Work closely with teams across Nuro including Systems V&V, Autonomy Development, Mapping, Data Infrastructure, and Operations.
