About The Position

KAIROS, Inc is searching for an energetic, experienced, and highly motivated Systems Engineer, to join our team. This position will be onsite at Scott AFB, IL. Established in July 2013, KAIROS, Inc. is a growing Woman Owned Small Business (WOSB) specializing in Life Cycle Program Management, Engineering, Cybersecurity, Logistics and Sustainment, Enterprise Platforms and AI, and Additive Manufacturing services focused on optimizing customers’ program performance and mission through proven methodologies and ethical practices. This position will provide operational systems engineering and sustainment support for the Mobility Air Forces (MAF) Command and Control (C2) Family of Systems (FoS), including Mobility Air Forces Automated Flight Planning Service (MAFPS), Global Decision Support System (GDSS), Consolidated Air Mobility Planning System (CAMPS), and Mobility Enterprise Information Services (MEIS), mission‑critical capabilities supporting Air Mobility Command (AMC) global operations. This role focuses on platform reliability, system availability, security compliance, and operational performance of MAF C2 cloud-based environments. The engineer applies systems engineering principles in an operations‑centric environment utilizing Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) best practices, bridging system administration, sustainment engineering, cybersecurity compliance, and mission support. The position works closely with government stakeholders, system administrators, cybersecurity teams, and program management offices to ensure MAF C2 capabilities are reliable, secure, and continuously available to global users.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting mission systems in Cloud-based unclassified and classified environments.
  • Familiarity with RMF / ATO sustainment processes.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a 24x7 operational environment.
  • Experience in exercise or contingency operations support.
  • Strong customer relations, analytics, and documentation skills

  • 3–5+ years of experience supporting DoD mission systems.
  • This position is subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. In order to complete the requirements for government security clearance investigation you must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to complete the full background investigation. This position requires an Active Secret Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide systems engineering support for steady‑state operations and sustainment of MAF C2 infrastructure, including Windows and Linux server environments.
  • Apply engineering discipline to system configuration, lifecycle planning, patch management, and availability management.
  • Support system provisioning, installation, configuration, and maintenance activities across MAF C2 Cloud One (C1) Unclassified and Classified environments.
  • Perform root cause analysis for system outages, performance degradation, and recurring operational issues in collaboration with Program Management Office and Systems Manager.
  • Collaborate with MAF C2 engineering team who maintains enterprise server platforms, including cloud-based environments.
  • Collaborate with Program Management Office in coordination of operating system patching events and security updates in accordance with program schedules.
  • Support data center operations, hardware upgrades, component replacement, and system health monitoring in collaboration with Program Management Office, and MAF C2 engineering team.
  • Maintain system interoperability with related AMC mission systems and supporting services.
  • Collaborate with Information Systems Security Officer, and Systems Manager to ensure system compliance with DoD and Air Force cybersecurity requirements.
  • Support RMF / ATO sustainment activities, providing technical inputs, artifact updates, and security remediation.
  • Use enterprise ticketing systems to track, document, and resolve cloud-based incidents.
  • Provide status updates, deficiency tracking, and resolution reporting to government stakeholders and the Program Management Office.
  • Support software asset management and configuration tools (e.g., JBOSS EAP, Open JDK, Ozone Widget Framework, etc.) in collaboration with Program Management Office and engineering teams.
  • Collaborate on system performance using enterprise monitoring tools.
  • Coordinate daily operations with government program offices, functional help desks, cybersecurity teams, and fellow engineers.
  • Provide clear, actionable technical communication to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Assist with exercise and contingency support activities by maintaining required system connections and configurations.
  • Participate in Technical Exchange Meetings (TEMs), Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and Combat Air Forces (CAF) missions.
