About The Position

AFSS requires a summer system engineering intern to provide technical support on the Rocket Systems Launch Program Mission Assurance (RSLP MA) contract at the Kirtland Program Office, on a project developing online tools and documentation for technical process improvement efforts relating to the space launch industry. The period of work would be from mid-June through mid-September on a full time (40 hours/week) schedule on site at the Program Office on Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of programming and in particularly Python/NumPy/SciPy and associated libraries, C, document formatting using LaTeX; other languages such as Java, Scala, et cetera are helpful but not mandatory
  • The demonstrated ability to undertake complex projects and comprehend technical issues with limited guidance and oversight
  • Experience working in a team environment with both technical and non-technical personnel
  • Good written and spoken communication including developing technical documentation
  • Must be a US citizen due to ITAR/CUI/NOFORN restrictions
  • Undergraduate in an engineering or a related discipline (mechanical/electrical/computer/aerospace engineering) with an interest in the space launch industry
  • Prior internship(s) or experience in a professional environment demonstrating skill, learning ability, and work ethic

Nice To Haves

  • Having previously held or eligible to hold a DoD Secret clearance is strongly desired
  • Additional certifications, education, and accomplishments will be considered in selecting a candidate for this internship

Responsibilities

  • Assist in development of online tools and user interfaces for risk management, technical knowledge databases, program integration, and tracking integrated mission milestone schedules
  • Work with engineering and program office staff to obtain user feedback and proof these tools to debug issues and improve user experience
  • Produce documentation and training materials to support this project
  • Present these tools to a broad audience and assist users in understanding the correct application and workflow
  • Other miscellaneous duties as required in support of this project
