About The Position

See definition and requirements of remote work for the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office: Remote work with the Secretary of State’s Office SALARY: $8,237 - $12,487/per month Non-PERS Rate $8,730 - $13,236/per month PERS Rate WHAT YOU WILL DO: As a Systems Engineer, you will lead the design, implementation, and integration of technologies that evolve and strengthen the agency’s IT infrastructure services while maintaining their confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Specifically, you will focus on establishing and supporting a hybrid-datacenter using primarily Microsoft technologies. This includes but is not limited to Azure, M365, Windows, Entra, hypervisors, networking systems, and backup solutions. You will work closely with architecture and security teams to ensure solutions are strategically aligned, secure, resilient, and built for long-term sustainability. This includes contributing to technical roadmaps, incorporating modern engineering practices, and ensuring observability, availability, and lifecycle management principles are met. Once solutions are implemented, you will coordinate smooth handoffs to the Service Desk & Operations teams. The role also supports core ITSM processes such as Incident, Change, Problem, and Asset Management, helping ensure stable and reliable operations across the enterprise. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong capabilities in requirements gathering, solution design, and the implementation of robust, scalable, and secure hybrid-datacenter services aligned with agency goals. Additionally, the ideal candidate has a proven record of providing technical guidance, mentoring team members, and ensuring successful project delivery. Requirements

  • Seven (7) years of information systems experience in Core Azure infrastructure services expertise, Hybrid-datacenter engineering expertise, Identity & Access Management Expertise.
  • An Associate's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field; AND five (5) years of information systems experience in Core Azure infrastructure services expertise, Hybrid-datacenter engineering expertise, Identity & Access Management Expertise.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND three (3) years of information systems experience in Core Azure infrastructure services expertise, Hybrid-datacenter engineering expertise, Identity & Access Management Expertise.
  • A Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND one (1) year of information systems experience in Core Azure infrastructure services expertise, Hybrid-datacenter engineering expertise, Identity & Access Management Expertise.
  • Core Azure infrastructure services expertise (Containers, Compute, Networking, Storage)
  • Hybrid-datacenter engineering expertise (IaC patterns, Vmware, Hyper-V, OpenShift)
  • Identity & Access Management expertise (Entra, MFA, SSO, Conditional Access)
  • Security-by-design & Zero Trust experience (least privilege, CIS hardening, Compliance automation)
  • Cost Governance, Tenant Administration, Licensing experience (Subscriptions, Mgmt.Groups, Tagging)
  • Observability & Automation experience (Splunk, Solarwinds, Powershell, Copilot)
  • Collaboration & Leadership experience (Project delivery, Operational handoff)

Responsibilities
