The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, developmental planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction to help shape future space missions across the national security space enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including, the United States Space Force, the Department of the Air Force, the Missile Defense Agency, U.S. Space Command, U.S. Strategic Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation. The Systems Director (SD) in the Responsive Space Branch within the Agile Acquisition Directorate (AAD) will support the Space Rapid Capabilities Office (Space RCO) Engineering Branch, matrixing critical skills to the entire Space RCO portfolio. The Space RCO is rapidly developing and fielding highly classified critical capabilities for the space enterprise. The SD will actively participate in all phases of a system lifecycle to ensure operationally dominant space capabilities are delivered at the speed of warfighting relevance. The SD will also perform day-to-day management activities and be responsible for strategic customer engagement and Aerospace backplane activities.

Requirements

  • BS degree in engineering, mathematics, or physical sciences is required or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • 12 or more years of progressively responsible experience in systems engineering, program management , or other technical fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to form and lead teams
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly dynamic Program Office environment with a mix of government, FFRDC, and SETA personnel
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; experience presenting and writing technical information
  • Travel is required (10-25%)
  • Past demonstration of Aerospace’s Leadership Competency Model elements: leading change, operating strategically, fostering innovation, delivering results, and engaging with impact
  • This position requires a current TS/SCI security clearance with SAP eligibility, which is issued by the US Government.
  • U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Government, SETA, and contractor teams to field highly classified critical systems
  • Define requirements and standards for all Space RCO program reviews, design, development, test, and transition to operations efforts
  • Routinely present status updates to Senior Material Leaders (O-6) and Space RCO Director (SES-2)
  • Lead Aerospace EN support; Work closely with EN leadership (DH-04) and Program Managers (O-5)
  • Identify risk areas and mitigation efforts to meet mission objectives
  • Participate in the Aerospace Space RCO Enterprise Team (ASET)
  • Represent SpRCO’s interest in Aerospace backplane communications
  • Build and manage a team of Aerospace personnel supporting EN
  • Build and manage Aerospace SME teams to execute Space RCO mod/sim approach, process, and architecture
  • Maintain the Space RCO relationships with all modeling and wargaming organizations and SSIO
  • Prepare Space RCO leadership (SES-2) for enterprise risk and configuration working meetings
  • Manage the Space RCO spectrum process being executed by ETG
  • Oversee all Aerospace work on new programs being on-boarded
  • Work closely with members of a diverse team of military, government civilians, prime contractors, SE&I contractors, FFRDCs and National Laboratories
