Systems Design Engineer, Sr

Macom S.A.S.Newport Beach, CA
17d$84,000 - $136,000

About The Position

Drive feasibility analyses at onset of product definition phase. Evaluate and specifyelectrical characteristics and performance of devices and systems to determinecompliance with appropriate regulating standards. Takecradle-to-grave ownership of products through hand-off to product engineeringfor production launch. This encompasses efforts to find limits of productperformance as well as debugging. Performdetailed modeling and electrical analysis of silicon-to-silicon physicalinterconnects. This covers all aspects of the physical interconnect in a systemcontext, including chip-scale to large-scale packaging, passive connectors andcomponents, and multi-conductor transmission lines. Defineand carry out experiments to validate modeling methodologies and to establishcorrelation of such to empirical data. Design, develop, and document interconnect solutions for internal hardware needs aswell as for customer hardware reference designs. Identifytechniques and methodologies for modeling and measurement of devices andsystems. Actively lead evaluations of these.

Requirements

  • An ideal candidate will have a PhD degree and 6+ years of directexperience. The minimum requirement is an MSEE degree with 8+ years ofpertinent experience. BSEE will be considered depending on specific relevantbackground and with 15 years minimum experience in industry.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, arerequired.
  • The candidate must possess experience in creating and executingdetailed yet effective technical presentations to internal groups as well as tokey customers.
  • Proven debug skills of devices and systems is paramount to successfor this position.
  • A strong understanding of basic circuit and transmission linetheory is essential, as is familiarity with and a working knowledge ofconcurrent time and frequency-domain methods of analysis and characterization.
  • Programming experience is required in Matlab and C++.
  • Expert-level knowledge and experience with 3D electro-magneticfield simulators such as Ansoft HFSS, with proven ability to create models ofusable bandwidth to a minimum of 100 GHz is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of circuit simulation tools such as Cadence ICCraftsman, and Agilent ADS (or Ansys Designer) is a must.
  • Working experience is required in Agilent SystemVue system-levelsimulator.
  • Candidates should have a solid understanding of the scientificmethod and have extensive experience setting up experiments, and collectingmeasurement data using mainstream equipment used for characterizing high speedserial links -- both electrical and optical. This includes: TDR, VNA, BERTs,DCAs/oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, as well as optical sources andreceivers.
