About The Position

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI, Austin, TX, or Mountain View, CA three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business if more than 3 days]. The Role The Systems Configurator is an individual contributor role focused on configuring pre-existing enterprise software (specifically Workjam) to meet complex GM Manufacturing business requirements. Rather than writing custom code, this role centers on application and systems configuration, testing, and continuous improvement to ensure Workjam effectively supports shop-floor operations and broader manufacturing needs. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience building and configuring enterprise applications, understands security and audience management, and is comfortable testing and automating workflows to enhance productivity across the organization. They collaborate closely with business partners, IT teams, and plant stakeholders to translate business processes into robust, scalable configurations. This Systems Configurator position is critical to unlocking the full value of Workjam for GM Manufacturing, ensuring plant teams have the right tools, access, and workflows to operate efficiently and safely. By combining a strong understanding of business processes with hands-on configuration expertise, the Systems Configurator helps deliver scalable, reliable solutions that support GM’s broader digital manufacturing strategy.

Requirements

  • 2 - 5 years of relevant experience in systems configuration, application configuration, enterprise application administration, or a closely related role.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise application functionality and features, including: Role-based access and security models Configurable workflows and tasking Data-driven configuration and targeting without requiring deep software architecture or custom development expertise.
  • Demonstrated experience in problem solving, troubleshooting, incident resolution, and testing for enterprise systems.
  • Ability to translate business processes and operational needs into clear, consistent configuration requirements and user stories.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail in validating data, user access, and end-to-end workflows.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across technical and non‑technical stakeholders (e.g., Manufacturing, HR, Operations, plant leaders, vendors).
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn, adapt, and grow into a subject-matter expert on the Workjam platform over time.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • Hands-on Workjam software experience, including configuration, administration, or implementation on the platform.
  • Experience supporting or configuring systems in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Familiarity with Workday or similar HR / Workforce Management systems and their integration patterns with downstream applications.
  • Experience with change management, including documenting changes, participating in CAB (Change Advisory Board) discussions, and ensuring appropriate approvals and communication.
  • Curious and proactive, with a strong desire to deepen expertise in the Workjam platform and related GM Manufacturing processes.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hybrid environment, balancing on-site collaboration with remote work.
  • Organized and disciplined in documenting work, following standards, and adhering to governance processes.
  • Customer-focused mindset, with a passion for improving end‑user experience and manufacturing productivity through well-designed system configurations.

Responsibilities

  • Configuration & Implementation Configure the Workjam platform to align with GM Manufacturing business process rules and operational requirements, ensuring the solution effectively enables GM’s business.
  • Configure and maintain data-driven integrations from existing source systems (e.g., Workday) and other enterprise platforms, ensuring the application properly utilizes incoming data without requiring custom software development or coding.
  • Leverage existing master data, organization structures, and user attributes to drive application behavior and ensure they are correctly reflected in Workjam configurations.
  • Security, Access, and Audience Management Configure and maintain security groups, roles, and permissions so users have the appropriate access, views, and capabilities within Workjam.
  • Ensure local manufacturing records (e.g., plant-level identifiers, lines, departments, shifts) are correctly utilized within the software to support accurate targeting and segmentation.
  • Partner with security and compliance stakeholders to align configurations with access control, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
  • Testing, Quality, and Support Design, execute, and document test scenarios to validate configurations, integrations, and new capabilities, ensuring they function as intended across environments before deployment to production.
  • Perform troubleshooting, incident resolution, and root-cause analysis for configuration-related issues, collaborating with internal teams and vendors as needed.
  • Provide post-implementation support, including monitoring system performance, validating configuration outcomes, and addressing defects or gaps identified by end users.
  • Upgrades, Enhancements, and Continuous Improvement Lead or support the planning and execution of software upgrades, ensuring that configurations remain compatible and that new features are evaluated and leveraged where beneficial.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, automate workflows, and improve user experience within Workjam, based on feedback from plants and stakeholders.
  • Maintain clear and up-to-date configuration and process documentation, including design decisions, configuration standards, and runbooks.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration Partner with Manufacturing, HR, Operations, and IT stakeholders to understand business processes, requirements, and constraints, and translate them into sustainable configurations in Workjam.
  • Communicate configuration changes, impacts, and timelines clearly to plant leadership and other stakeholders, using simple, non-technical language where appropriate.
  • Serve as a platform champion, educating users and partners on Workjam capabilities, best practices, and new features.
