Patient Services Practice, Research, and Education must ensure the effective design and implementation of innovative practice models, patient care delivery processes and comprehensive, evidence-based curriculum. The EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR serves as liaison to Schools of Nursing, Performance Improvement, and Nursing Cabinet to facilitate use of clinical and financial data and research findings for decision -making and implementation of programs that ensure excellence in the delivery of patient care delivery. The EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR must also ensure that educational programs and patient care delivery processes meet regulatory, accepted practice standards and accreditation requirements. The EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR oversees the orientation of all nursing students and professional nurses and leads all Magnet initiatives for Yale New Haven Health. They also oversees the design and operation of all nursing, and unlicensed assistive personnel competency -based orientation, as well as the design and implementation mandatory nursing and continuing education programs for YNHHS. The role spans across the Health System, as the leader of the nationally recognized system nurse residency program, the bridge to professional practice program, and the leader of a residency program for unlicensed assistive personnel. The EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR also collaborates with practice partners across the Health System to develop and implement standardized care and practice policies. The EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR oversees and sponsors the enculturation of nursing professional governance for practice decision making across the health system. The EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR directs the nursing research program in collaboration with schools of nursing.

Requirements

Minimum degree in nursing (baccalaureate or graduate). Graduate degree required which may be in a related field if the undergraduate is in nursing. Doctoral degree required.
Minimum 10 years of progressive experience; previous experience in senior leadership role preferred. Experience in grantsmanship; conduct and facilitation of clinical nursing research. Previous experience in the development of a program of nursing research desired. Membership and participation in professional nursing and research organizations.
Current CT RN license.
Excellent administrative, managerial, technical, fiscal and negotiation skills. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills in a complex system environment Demonstrated ability in relating to and communicating with people effectively. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Understanding of nursing professional development using adult learning theory.
This role would support nursing professional practice throughout the health system. Travel to YNHHS entities as needed to support the professional practice of nurses within YNHHS.

Responsibilities

Provide vision and strategy to Nursing Professional Practice in the design, development and implementation of clinically and fiscally responsive program philosophies, goals and objectives in collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officers and Chief New Executive.
Ensure the establishment of clear performance standards within the nursing professional practice division in alignment with nursing best practices.
Ensure on-going monitoring of programmatic performance. Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding the strategic change required to respond to trends regulatory standards as well as clinical practice.
Collaborate with key members of the multidisciplinary team to lead care transformation and innovative across YNHHS.
Enable a culture of systemness by developing structures and processes that support nursing professional excellence.
Create strategies, structures and processes to foster an environment that supports nurses in their professional practice, overall health and well being.1.7. Develop strategies and infrastructure to create an organizational climate that promotes rigorous
inquiry to create new knowledge (research) and translate evidence into practice [evidence-based practice (EBP)] to enhance patient care and improve the professional nurse practice environment.
Establish and strengthen academic partnerships to prepare nurses to fulfill existing and emerging roles. Partners with colleges, universities, and key community nursing organizations to support key nursing initiatives related to academic preparation of nurses.
Increase nurse engagement in professional organizations at the local, national, and international level to advance the profession of nursing and enhance YNHHS nursing?s voice in transforming health care.
Increase the visibility and reputation of nurses nationally and internationally through leading the coordination and dissemination of evidence-based practice research projects.
Lead the development of evidence-based practice standards to reduce unwarranted variation and enable the provision of high quality, high value, and person-centered care across the continuum.
Creation of an environment and infrastructure that supports professional growth activities that affect development and implementation of innovative nursing practice; the recruitment and retention of nurses; and implementation of a program of nursing research.
Enculturate and sponsor YNHHS nursing?s professional governance structure to enhance nursing?s voice in shared decision making and advance nursing professional excellence at YNHHS.
In collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officers, partners to ensure professional practice environment and outcomes enable YNHHS delivery network hospitals to achieve or maintain Magnet designation.
Ensures that resources are prioritized and in place (i.e. staff, facilities, equipment, supplies, technology, information, systems and processes, etc. ) and properly utilized to achieve objectives through the most effective and efficient operations.
Develops and presents comprehensive analysis for financial and programmatic recommendations for nursing professional practice initiatives.
Monitors financial performance. Evaluates and approves recommendations regarding change required to achieve established financial objectives.
Articulates and communicates the rationale for financial decisions ensuring a high level of understanding among stakeholders across the health system.
Continually evaluates delivery modalities and use of technologybalancing financial objectives and quality of programming.
In collaboration with the quality department and interprofessional partners, identifies trends in nursing practice and responds to positively impact the delivery of cost-effective, quality patient care.
Creates vision and provides leadership in a collaborative, matrix environment that offers job satisfaction and recognition and that stimulates innovative thinking and cross functional teamwork to accomplish objectives.
Clearly establishes expectations for high levels of performance, oversees the monitoring of standards of performance excellence, evaluates and approves recommendations regarding change and holds management accountable for achieving established standards.
Ensures the effective integration of progressive change through visible and active support of staff as well as demonstrating open communication techniques.
Ensures that all management and staff understand their roles in accomplishing divisional and strategic objectives.
Ensures that leaders and professionals with the Nursing Professional Practice division are developed mentored, and coached; have access to continuing education and development; and have opportunities to growth
