About The Position

This position is for an individual contributor system manager reporting to the Systems Engineering BOP supervisor. The primary role is to proactively manage system performance to meet or exceed plant safety, production, and cost goals by preventing equipment failures and improving system reliability and availability in a cost-effective manner. As the station system expert, the system manager is the focal point of plant knowledge concerning systems, including performance requirements and bases, operating status, performance monitoring and analysis, planned preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance, and related industry operating experience. The role involves performing work activities or projects requiring the application of technical knowledge in a safe, cost-effective, and efficient way. The System Engineer will identify, resolve, and initiate solutions to highly complex problems unique to the company and industry, requiring specialized knowledge of equipment and/or problem-solving techniques. The individual will exhibit advanced-level proficiency and unique technical knowledge to effectively lead and participate in recommended courses of action, outages, projects, and assignments in a safe, efficient, and economical manner. This role also involves leading, facilitating, and coordinating work activities of others within the work group, team, or those external to the company, and assuming the role of project or function manager for assigned tasks, including organizing and leading outages/projects and task forces. The System Engineer is expected to project credibility and competence on technical issues, possess highly developed presentation skills, and identify and initiate appropriate corrective action when objectives are not being met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Business Administration, Biology or Chemistry
  • OR Associate Degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited school with 8 years nuclear experience
  • OR high school diploma / GED with 12 years of experience in the nuclear industry
  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills
  • Broad knowledge of nuclear standards and nuclear policies, practices and procedures
  • Demonstrates problem solving skills
  • Must establish and maintain a permanent residence within a 45-minute safe drive time to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and trends performance of assigned systems
  • Performs and documents system walk downs
  • Develops comprehensive System Health Reports and manage recovery plans for degraded systems
  • Maintains ownership of the Preventive Maintenance Program technical basis
  • Updates Maintenance Rule (Mrule) database and maintain system/function unavailability
  • Participates in the long-range planning and lifecycle management
  • Identifies, resolves, and initiates solutions to highly complex problems that are unique to the company and industry and requires specialized knowledge of equipment and/or problem-solving techniques
  • Exhibits advanced-level proficiency plus unique technical knowledge that allows effective leadership and participation in recommended courses of action, outages, projects, and assignments in a safe, efficient, and economical manner
  • Leads, facilitates, and coordinates work activities of others within work group, team, or those external to the company
  • Assumes the role of project or function manager for assigned tasks
  • Organizes and leads outages/projects and task forces as assigned
  • Identifies and initiates appropriate corrective action when objectives are not being met
