About The Position

The System Administrator 2 provides advanced support for the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Information Technology (IT) systems within a secure Government environment. This role manages IT system infrastructure and associated processes, supporting day-to-day operations, monitoring, and problem resolution across client/server, storage, network, and cryptographic systems. The System Administrator plays a key role in maintaining system security, reliability, and performance, with a strong emphasis on cryptographic solutions, cybersecurity compliance, and collaboration with cross‑functional engineering and security teams.

Requirements

  • Ten (10) years of experience supporting IT systems within Federal Government programs of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline is required; five (5) additional years of relevant system administration experience may be substituted for the degree.
  • Must demonstrate experience in system administration with a cybersecurity and cryptography focus, including encryption technologies, key management, and secure system operations.
  • Requires strong knowledge of network protocols, security frameworks such as NIST or ISO 27001, and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • CompTIA Security+ or equivalent certification is required.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for all applicants.

  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a security background investigation and polygraph.
  • DOD 8570 Certification
  • This position requires an active Security Clearance with appropriate Polygraph.

Responsibilities

  • Provide implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance support for IT systems, including UNIX and Windows operating systems
  • Manage daily configuration and operation of IT infrastructure, including servers, network components, storage devices, and mobile devices
  • Provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) problem identification, diagnosis, and resolution
  • Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of cryptographic hardware and software solutions
  • Develop, implement, and enforce encryption standards for data at rest and data in transit in accordance with Government and industry security frameworks
  • Perform vulnerability assessments and evaluate the effectiveness of cryptographic and system security controls
  • Support dispatch systems and remain engaged through resolution of hardware and system issues
  • Optimize system operations, resource utilization, and conduct system capacity analysis and planning
  • Configure, manage, and enhance operating systems to improve reliability, performance, and security posture
  • Provide detailed technical analysis and feedback for escalated issues to agency management and internal customers
  • Collaborate with system administrators, network engineers, and cybersecurity personnel to integrate cryptographic and security controls into enterprise systems
  • Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for system configurations, cryptographic policies, and operating procedures
