Position Summary: The Senior Vice President of Gas is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient long-term operation and maintenance of Gas distribution and pipeline assets, as well as leading the transition to clean energy. This role involves project and portfolio management, ensuring operational excellence, and balancing cost, safety, and reliability. The SVP will establish and drive strategic and competitive performance objectives to exceed customer, stakeholder, and regulatory expectations, fostering a positive and engaged culture focused on learning, development, inclusion, safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business or related field required; MBA preferred.
  • 15-20 years of industry experience in operations, maintenance, design, or construction with direct management experience of multiple aspects of utility operations.
  • Exceptional management skills to implement strategies, control risk, and manage finances across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a strong understanding of financial and regulatory issues.
  • Proven experience interacting with executive-level leadership, industry leaders, Board members, and Union Executives.
  • Proven ability to lead a step change in operating performance and positive culture change in a large organization.
  • Demonstrated success in safety, quality, productivity, and performance.

Nice To Haves

  • Executive-level leadership of large, geographically dispersed teams (ideally 500–1,000+ employees).
  • Direct experience working with PHMSA, state utility commissions, and regulatory agencies.
  • Strong track record managing major incidents, emergency response, and compliance programs.
  • Proven ability to develop leaders two to three levels down and build strong succession pipelines.
  • Demonstrated success strengthening culture across operations—safety, accountability, and psychological safety.
  • Experience leading organizations through modernization, technology adoption, or transformation.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Define, support, align, and communicate the company's brand, vision, values, and strategic direction through cross-functional partnerships with Operations. Continuously improve programs and processes to achieve higher standards of safety, quality, and performance.
  • Workforce Management: Build, manage, and develop a high-performing operational workforce to meet current and future needs. Lead a talent management strategy aligned with business objectives to foster a culture of safety, engagement, development, and continuous learning. Partner closely with labor relations to develop a strong collaborative relationship.
  • Operational Excellence: Lead the execution of systems, processes, rules, policies, programs, and regulations that set the standard for operational performance. Foster an environment of safety, collaboration, and trust with employees, contractors, customers, communities, and other stakeholders.
  • Risk Management: Prioritize risk manage to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of company assets. Develop strong processes and governance within the organization that mitigate risk. Reinforce governance and self-assessment procedures to identify risk areas and develop action plans to mitigate risks.
  • Communication and Alignment: Effectively communicate and align all levels within the organization, providing a clear picture of performance and accountability for closing gaps.
  • Project Management: Oversee the management of multiple projects simultaneously, with strong adherence to budget management and company expectations. Drive a culture of innovation and simplification to identify efficiencies, reduce carbon emissions, and reduce costs.
