We have an opportunity for a Sustaining Engineering Manager to join our Moorpark, CA team. You will provide technical oversight to maintain and improve product function, performance, cost, quality, and reliability. This will be accomplished by utilizing leadership, technical and project management skills to lead the Moorpark and Phoenix sustaining engineering teams with a focus on production line support, field support, regulatory compliance, quality improvement (QIT) activities, value improvement (VIT) activities, product line expansions, documentation improvements, and engineering process improvements. This position is also responsible for oversight of the Moorpark lab. You will: Lead the Moorpark and Phoenix site sustaining engineering function across two strategic focus areas: Maintenance of Business (MoB): Maintain continuity and compliance of existing product lines by proactively managing component obsolescence, qualifying alternate parts and suppliers, resolving supplier and manufacturing issues, ensuring adherence to evolving regulatory standards (e.g., UL, CSA, DOE), and updating engineering documentation (drawings, BOMs, specifications) to support ongoing production and quality standards. Continually prioritize the dynamic MoB project list and coordinate team resources based on SQDCC. Provide technical guidance with product management and field personnel as required. Product cost savings: Drive product cost reduction (MCOGS) by leading strategic sourcing initiatives. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement cost-saving initiatives. Develop and maintain a robust project pipeline that consistently exceeds annual cost reduction targets. Collaborate on the management of the MCOGS productivity project portfolio and work with the VAVE engineering team on the division of projects based on determined criteria. Establish clear metrics to evaluate priority, status and output Present strategy, progress, and results to executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders. Partner with cross functional leadership to ensure alignment and cross functional resource allocation on selected projects Champion the PCO (product change order) process for the relevant product lines & sites Provide oversight of the Moorpark lab. Drive lab process and facilities continuous improvement activities. Work with NPD engineering to transition design control of newly launched products within a 3–6-month period Ensure consistent use of formal engineering tools and methodologies. Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and reporting systems. Work with team and cross-functional partners to minimize barriers to execution Mentor and develop engineering staff, fostering a positive, high-performance and innovative culture. Ensure a proper mix of skills on the team, upskill and replace as needed. Lead strategic planning and budgeting

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mechanical preferred
  • 10+ years progressive experience as a project engineer performing product engineering and/or new product development work on products with comparable production rates and complexity.
  • 5+ years’ experience leading multidisciplinary teams on multiple complex projects.
  • 3+ years in a management role with strong leadership skillset and a proven track record of leadership and holding teams accountable.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Working knowledge of engineering tools/processes – PPAP, DVP&R, DFMEA, PFMEA, DFMA, ECO, ERP systems, BOM structures
  • Strong understanding of injection molded plastic part design, injection molding and material selection.
  • Understanding of sheet metal part design and material selection – stamping, forming, drawing and spinning.
  • Basic understanding of microprocessors, digital electronics and firmware design in consumer control/automation products.
  • Regulatory agency experience/knowledge (e.g. UL, CSA, NSF, DOE)
  • Experience in developing company engineering policies and procedures
  • Strong communication, presentation, and project management skills.
  • Effective leadership and people management abilities.
  • Adaptability to change priorities and deadlines.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office Suite, CAD tools, and project tracking software.
  • Willingness to travel 10-15%.

Nice To Haves

  • Multi-site experience a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with pool equipment is preferred.
  • Understanding/practice Design for Manufacturability & Assembly (DFMA) and Lean Manufacturing principles preferred.
