About The Position

Under direction of the Sustainability Outreach Coordinator and Deputy Director, incumbent supports sustainability education and outreach for residents, businesses, and city employees over the course of a summer internship. Assists in facilitating and promoting city-wide sustainability initiatives with a focus on contributing editorial content to the SLCgreen blog and attending community tabling events. Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, though summer internships may not require concurrent enrollment if student is in good standing with the educational institution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Must have good organizational and analytical skills.
  • Must have good computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with all aspects of marketing and outreach related to the Department’s programs and mission.
  • Researches and writes articles for the SLCgreen blog covering a wide range of sustainability and environmental topics.
  • Assists with content creation for SLCgreen website and social media.
  • Serve as a primary point person for staffing the SLCgreen booth during community tabling events.
  • Tabling is the primary focus of the internship in the Summer).
  • Assists the department with surveys and outreach related to the City’s climate plan, Climate Forward SLC.
  • Assists the department with outreach related to the Utah Renewable Communities program.
  • Analyzing, recommending changes, and developing creative outreach material to promote sustainability initiatives with different audiences
  • As needed, intern may also undertake a research project for the Department. This includes designing, developing, and conducting research, determining appropriate methodology, information sources, sampling strategies, and data-collection tools.
  • Writes or drafts technical reports, articles or related material based on research, investigation or analysis.
  • Performs communication and research activities by utilizing computer software.
  • Other tasks as assigned and as based on student’s background, academic goals, and interests.
