About The Position

STV is seeking a Survey Party Chief to join our Survey Group in the Atlanta, GA area. This role serves as the on-site leader of survey field crews, responsible for executing survey work accurately, safely, and efficiently in support of transportation, infrastructure, and land development projects. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who understands boundary law, construction staking, and modern survey equipment—and knows how to keep a crew productive, documentation clean, and deadlines met. Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience performing ALTA, boundary, topographic, and construction staking surveys
  • Proficiency operating: Trimble Robotic Total Stations Trimble GPS equipment Levels and data collectors
  • Ability to read and interpret plats, survey documents, and construction plans
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct and support field personnel
  • Proven work history, strong work ethic, and team-oriented mindset
  • Ability to problem-solve and adapt to field conditions
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid Driver’s License with a driving record that meets insurance requirements
  • Ability to pass drug screening and criminal background check
  • Ability to walk long distances over varied terrain
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Willingness to travel for out-of-town assignments as required

Nice To Haves

  • GDOT survey experience a plus
  • Experience working on transportation or infrastructure project

Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead on a survey crew and direct daily field operations
  • Perform survey work as assigned by the Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) in an accurate, ethical, and timely manner
  • Conduct ALTA/NSPS, boundary, topographic, and construction staking surveys
  • Operate Trimble survey equipment including robotic total stations, GPS units, levels, and data collectors
  • Upload and download survey data between field equipment and office systems
  • Collect high-quality field data and maintain clear, accurate field notes, sketches, and documentation
  • Perform basic field calculations necessary to complete survey tasks
  • Communicate daily with the Project Surveyor and/or Survey Technician regarding schedules, progress, and issues
  • Prepare daily reports, timesheets, and required project documentation
  • Maintain survey equipment and assigned vehicle; ensure proper tools, supplies, and safety equipment are available each day
  • Interact professionally with clients, landowners, and project stakeholders
