About The Position

Wills Eye Hospital is hiring a Surgical Scheduler in Philadelphia, PA . In this role, you’ll support various administrative functions for the surgical scheduling team . This is a Part-Time 24 hours per week (M, W, F — 8:00am - 4:30pm or 8:30am - 5:00pm) opportunity for someone who wants to own the patient’s journey to surgery and make sure nothing falls through the cracks. You’ll manage the entire pre-surgical readiness process and contribute to a positive patient experience . Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of medical records administration
  • Excellent customer service skills and strong attention to detail
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively with staff, physicians, patients, and their families

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years of previous surgical scheduling experience
  • 1-3 years of related healthcare, registration, physicians, patients, and their families

Responsibilities

  • Gathers and reviews all relevant demographic information and insurance documentation to ensure correct reimbursement is obtained for rendered services/procedures
  • Confirms accuracy of all patient demographics prior to surgery
  • Verifies active insurance coverage and processes prior authorizations for surgical procedures at least 2 weeks prior to surgery date
  • Works with department BOS (Business Office Specialist) to ensure all self-pay/specialty lens and out of pocket expenses are collected at least 2 weeks prior to surgery date
  • Alerts management of any issues with prior authorization or prepayments
  • Alerts management of any no show fees to be collected prior to rescheduling surgery
  • Responds to phone calls from patients, physicians, medical staff and coworkers to determine the urgency of the situation and then suggests appropriate handling based on work flow
