About The Position

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to; coordinating and evaluating patient care for the Bariatric Program to ensure a comprehensive quality program. Manage and follow through with the bariatric patients from the pre-op preparation, educational phase, continuing through the surgical phase, follow up and recovery process.

Requirements

  • BLS - Basic Life Support
  • FINGERPRIN - Fingerprinting
  • RN - Registered Nurse
  • Computer skills in word, data-based software, spreadsheets, electronic medical records, and web search skills.
  • Ability to communicate both in writing and verbally with peers, customers, physicians, and the community.
  • Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
  • Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
  • Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
  • Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
  • Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
  • Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
  • Physical Demand Level: Light. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.

Responsibilities

  • Bariatric Patient Coordinator will work closely with the bariatric team, Clinical Nurse and DON to monitor outcomes along with process development and growth including: collaboration with multiple disciplines, both pre and post-op, data collection, insurance verification and patient recruitment including seminars.
  • To facilitate help and monitor patient flow from seminar through long-term patient outcomes. The Bariatric Patient Coordinator has responsibility and accountability to provide cost effective quality patient care for this program, and other functions that may be assigned.
  • Collaborates with physicians, nursing and all other departmental personnel in planning for coordinating services to the patient.
  • Fosters a positive work environment.
  • Communicates effectively and sensitively to our patients, families, and physicians.
  • Communicates in a timely manner to all customers.
  • Responds to all customers’ needs/requests in a timely manner.
  • Will assist with keeping team members in the program informed of the program goals and outcomes.
  • Maintains effective quality management program to measure, assess and improve services in collaboration with the physicians and ensure HIPPA compliance is maintained per system requirements.
  • Ensures acceptable program performance by evaluating patient satisfaction surveys and clinical guidelines.
  • Participates in staff development and education with new staff on updated processes.
