About The Position

The Florida Gaming Control Commission is responsible for exercising all regulatory and executive powers of the state with respect to legal gaming, including pari-mutuel wagering, cardrooms, slot machine facilities, oversight of gaming compacts, and other forms of gambling authorized by state law, excluding the Lottery, as well as directly enforcing Florida’s gaming laws and combatting illegal gambling activities. The agency is overseen by five Commissioners who are appointed by the Governor, with Commissioners appointing an Executive Director who leads a team of nearly 200 staff members. The mission of the Florida Gaming Control Commission is to preserve and protect the integrity of gaming activities through fair regulation, licensing, effective criminal investigation, and enforcement. The Commission offers a supportive work environment that fosters growth and collaboration. This position is located at the Florida Gaming Control Commission's office in Ocala, FL and provides administrative support to the Division of Gaming Enforcement's regional offices by performing the following duties:

Requirements

  • Knowledge of computer software programs and administrative principles and practices
  • General knowledge of Florida Statutes and Commission regulations regarding procedures for impounding or processing law enforcement-related evidence and property
  • Considerable knowledge of storeroom or warehouse storage methods and procedures
  • Considerable knowledge of the industry standards in inventory management techniques and practices
  • Knowledge of general office procedures, filing, telephone techniques and office equipment
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication
  • Knowledge of Standard English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation and proofreading
  • Experience in inventory management and control
  • Experience in or demonstrated ability to understand and utilize records and filing system
  • Ability to pass a Level 2 criminal background screening
  • Ability to maintain as confidential a variety of criminal information
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, and analyze data relating to administrative functions
  • Ability to prepare correspondence and administrative reports
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to use available technology to perform duties, including computer software, hardware, and data systems
  • Sufficient physical strength and agility to lift and move items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds
  • Three (3) years of experience in evidence and property, inventory control, commercial supply management, or warehouse management; or
  • An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of evidence and property-related experience at a law enforcement agency.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures all articles and items received into the inventory are properly recorded in the archival database system and receipts are maintained in the designated file system
  • Conducts a pre-inventory inspection of all received physical items and packages to ensure integrity and evidentiary value will be retained during storage
  • Processes the transfer and transport of firearms to an authorized disposal service
  • Properly disposes of all evidence and property in accordance with applicable laws and policies
  • Transfers and documents the removal of all other disposable property to authorized use by law enforcement, surplus authority, or charities as appropriate
  • Completes reports indicating the number and types of seized property maintained for evidence, investigation, forfeiture, or other reasons as required
  • Serves as a liaison between investigators, property owners, and State Attorney’s Offices
  • Locates contact information for and notifies property owners of impounded items authorized for release
  • Writes public notices for advertisement of found property and posts as required by law prior to disposition
  • Processes and transports evidence to forensic laboratories, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement laboratory and the post office for package transmittal
  • Testifies in judicial proceedings pertaining to tasks and procedures performed in the Evidence and Property Section
  • Assists in the discovery process by redacting photographs and videos and submitting documents through the FGCC Discovery portal
  • Assists in the verification and bank deposit of seized and evidentiary currency
  • Attends specialized or advanced training courses pertaining to procedures and techniques for performing functions within the Evidence and Property Section
  • Assists with the development and delivery of training for personnel within the division
