About The Position

First line of Supervision for Bus Operations, serving in the capacity of Supervisor of Bus Operators, BCC Dispatchers and Yard Operations as the need arises. Supervises the activities of the Bus Operators to ensure compliance with all operating and safety rules. Works closely with bus dispatchers to ensure that buses are available for revenue service or any special service. Observe and analyze multiple computer-generated displays and verbal reports from bus operators and field supervisors in order to monitor, control, direct and supervise the status and movement of all buses in and out of service. Responsible for the adherences to schedules and continuous bus service. Use the MARTA Communications System to receive, document and report all facility problems, equipment malfunctions and emergencies to appropriate personnel. Initiates and supervise immediate alternative methods of operations during abnormal conditions. Supervise ongoing communications with all MARTA operations vehicles, street supervisors, line maintenance personnel, and emergency personnel. May perform as lead Dispatcher upon request. Has the authority to interpret and implement management policies or operating practices. Perform work that effects business operations to a substantial degree. Responsible for interpreting management policies regarding bus operating practices. Ensure communication with MARTA vehicles on an assigned console. Receive radio reports of exceptions to normal service, takes corrective measures or consult with Radio Communications Supervisor for appropriate action, and advises remedial action as necessary.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Business Administration, Business Management or related field is required.
  • Four years of transportation and/or management related experience is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of transit system, rail/bus system, and overall transportation services, and Bus Standard Operation procedures required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications, analytical, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Experience in union environment is required.
  • CDL (Commercial Driver’s License)

  • Successful completion of internal transportation related and/or internal professional development training is desired.
  • Knowledge of AVL APC, coordination during special events, and development of operation plans desired.
  • Directly related work experience may be substituted in lieu of educational requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises bus operators.
  • Ensures day-to-day activities, in support of unit work goals, are completed in an efficient and cost-effective manner within established policies and procedures.
  • Coaches personnel on proper performance of work, frequently providing direct technical assistance
  • Plans, monitors, evaluates and develops employee performance to maximize employee potential and maintain a high-performance environment.
  • Makes radio reports to the Bus Communications Center / Rail Control Center of adverse street conditions, construction projects, or other conditions that would affect the operation of Marta buses, and establishes re-routes as required.
  • Investigates accidents and provides written reports.
  • Observe and analyze multiple computer-generated displays and verbal reports from bus operators and fields supervisors in order to monitor, control, direct and supervise the status and movement of all buses in and out of revenue service to ensure schedule adherence and proper bus operations.
  • Performs constant visual monitoring of buses on MARTA’s AVL System and communicates by radio and telephone with various internal and external personnel.
  • Closely monitor, direct, control and supervise the manual movement of all buses and non-revenue vehicles.
  • Responsible for knowing the status of all equipment monitoring revenue service.
  • Receives and relays all reports of mechanical difficulties on MARTA buses and non-revenue vehicles.
  • Take appropriate action on communication received from operators, field supervisors, maintenance personnel, Police Services and other personnel regarding emergencies, accidents, incidents, rail service interruptions and malfunctions; dispatches appropriate personnel and equipment to resolve breakdowns, safety issues and other service disruptions with the shortest possible time frame; communicates with management and senior management regarding these problems.
