About The Position

The purpose of this position is to coordinate and enhance programs that support the academic transition, success, and persistence of first-year and pre-college students, with a primary focus on the Bronco Scholars Program (BSP). This role leads the design, implementation, and assessment of the summer bridge experience, providing holistic academic, social, and personal support to incoming students through intentional advising, peer mentoring, and community-building activities. The position also supports Early Assessment Program (EAP) outreach by partnering with local K–12 schools, families, and educators to promote college readiness and facilitate a smooth transition to Cal Poly Pomona and the CSU system. In addition, the coordinator tracks and evaluates student outcomes to inform continuous program improvement, strengthens partnerships across campus and regional networks, and contributes to broader student success initiatives. Through collaboration, data-informed practices, and equity-minded program development, this position plays a vital role in advancing the university’s mission to support first-generation, underrepresented, and underserved student populations.

Requirements

• Combination - Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
• DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
• One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
• A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
• A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
• The following knowledge and abilities as well as those listed at the lower levels in the Student Services Professional series are required for appointment into this classification.
• Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.
• General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned; general knowledge of individual counseling techniques; general knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned.
• Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.
• Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on complex student‑related matters; determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature; interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.

• Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and three years of progressively responsible professional student services experience.
• Alternatively, a master's degree in a related field can substitute for one year of experience, and a doctorate can substitute for all three years for certain counseling-focused positions.
• Knowledge of student advising, student development, program development and coordination, outreach, and support practices.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse students, families, faculty, and community partners.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work evenings/weekends and travel locally is required.
• Experience with academic preparation programs such as EAP, summer bridge/transition programs, or pre-college initiatives.
• Experience advising students facing academic preparedness gaps, first-generation college transition challenges, documented learning differences, or other barriers to academic persistence.
• Familiarity with K–12 educational systems, including academic preparation and placement initiatives.
• Strong organizational, communication, and public speaking skills.
• Experience using student data and advising systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, EAB Navigate, or CRM platforms).
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or other languages prevalent among partner school communities, where necessary to effectively conduct outreach and advising functions.

Responsibilities

• Design, coordinate, implement and evaluate the annual Bronco Scholars summer program.
• Collaborate with strategic communications team with marketing and outreach for BSP, including integration with EAP presentations and school visits.
• Provide updates/announcements to regularly update the website and social media.
• Collaborate with campus partners to support coordinated services and ensure a seamless transition for students.
• Collaborate with Admissions to determine student eligibility for the BSP.
• Pull, review, and maintain daily applicant reports; update and track BSP applicants and enrolled participants to ensure accurate records and timely follow-up.
• Provide enrollment support for students, working collaboratively with Advising and the Math Department to facilitate course placement, registration, and program alignment.
• Work with the Math Department to determine appropriate enrollment and coordinate the setup of Bronco Scholars math course sections.
• Develop activities that foster belonging, community, and academic success for participants.
• Provide advising and coaching for BSP participants, addressing academic and personal success factors and connecting them to resources.
• Oversee in collaboration with assistant coordinator for student success with hiring, training, and supervising peer mentors and student assistants.
• Provide operational support for daily program activities (scheduling, attendance tracking, activity supervision, troubleshooting).
• Collaborate and provide leadership to student success coaches to track student progress, respond to early alerts, and support wellness.
• Provide training and mentoring to student success coaches.
• Coordinate workshops during the academic year in support to student development and academic skills development.
• Prepare and submit mid-year and annual reports on program outcomes and evaluation/assessment efforts.
• Assist in overseeing and tracking programmatic budget.
• Work administrative team to reconcile payments to vendors.
• Collaborate with the Learning Resource Center (LRC) to coordinate year-round academic support for BSP participants.
• Serve as liaison in the absence of the senior coordinator or when appropriate between Cal Poly Pomona, the CSU Chancellor’s Office, and local districts to promote EAP goals and policies.
• In collaboration with EAP team, conduct workshops and presentations for students, parents, and educators on academic preparation, placement, and the transition to CSU.
• Provide individual and group coaching to support college transition steps (e.g., Bronco Portal, intent to enroll, orientation, summer bridge programs).
• In collaboration with EAP team, meet with high school administrators, counselors, and teachers to strengthen partnerships and support student readiness.
• When needed, deliver program materials, resources, and information packets to schools and community partners.
• Assist with planning and logistics of professional development for high school teachers, such as ERWC training and the annual Educator “Lunch and Learn.”
• Collaborate with high school counselors to help students identify senior-year coursework aligned with CSU multiple measures.
• Support recruitment of dual enrollment programs and provide related information sessions.
• Collect and analyze outreach data to inform planning with K–12 partners.
• When needed represent EAP at college fairs, community forums, and other outreach events.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of campus resources and connect students/families to appropriate services.
• Track and analyze student outcomes, surveys, and feedback to prepare reports and inform continuous program improvement.
• Assist with the coordination of first-year experience programs and services, such as the Common Read and the PolyX showcases.
• When appropriate, partner with faculty and staff to design and implement interventions for first-generation, underrepresented, and underserved students.
• When appropriate, support with campus-wide student success initiatives, committees, and task forces.
• Represent CPP at regional meetings and collaboratives as needed.
• Contribute to departmental meetings, committees, and division-wide initiatives as needed.
