About The Position

The Support Services Supervisor is responsible for training, monitoring, and supervision of services delivered by direct supervisees to enrolled VOA Alaska clients. The Support Services Supervisor will oversee the quality and quantity of services by direct reports, as well as to utilize evidence-based practices to provide a foundation for service delivery of all TAY Services. The Support Services Supervisor provides overall direction for client activities on a day-to-day basis. Emphasis is placed on the training and supervision of clients in the effective and cooperative performance of their daily responsibilities and providing milieu counseling. The Support Services Supervisor serves as a bridge between clients and the clinical team, to ensure behavior in the milieu is aligning with goals/objectives in the clients’ individual treatment plans. VOA Alaska is a youth-serving organization providing prevention, early intervention, treatment, and recovery supports to youth and families struggling with mental illness and addiction. Requirements

  • Lived experience in addiction and recovery, and/or experience overcoming mental health and symptoms with a minimum of two years of sobriety/recovery of either and must be active in their own recovery by participating in practices that support self-care, health, and over-all well-being.
  • If VOA Alumni, discharged from active client status for 1 year.
  • Has qualifications to be a Peer Support Specialist as defined by the State of Alaska. If not current, can achieve upon hire.
  • Peer Support Specialist (PSS): The ability to self-identify as someone who has lived experience of recovery from mental illness and/or addiction.
  • Group facilitation: Strong communication skills and planning ability, proficient with Zoom and related technology, and ability to teach in front of a group and individuals;
  • Communication: Communicates in writing and orally with linguistic and cultural proficiency (e.g. using age-appropriate materials, incorporating images);
  • Problem solving: Takes a systematic approach to solving problems rather than reacting to systems;
  • Teamwork ability: Job requires preferring to work with others rather than alone, and being personally connected with others on the job, to include community partners;
  • Taking initiative: Identifying what needs to be done and executing it before being asked or before the situation requires;
  • Empathy: The ability to listen efficiently and accurately enough to understand another’s situation and point of view;
  • Creativity/Innovation: Fosters and initiates new ideas, methods, and solutions;

  • Technology proficient: Proficiency with basic computer operations, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom, and other similar systems;
  • Flexibility: Ability to work flexible hours (including days, evenings).
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work; or a similar field with experience in case management and coordination of services, or two years’ experience in social work or a similar field with experience in case management, coordination of services and community service.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with substance use treatment milieu and/or youth preferred.
  • Experience using strength-based case management and either knowledge of Trauma Informed Care or willingness to be trained.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train direct supervisees within the TAY Services division. This will include performance reviews of those reporting directly to this position.
  • Provide initial and on-going training to assigned staff in areas such as orientation, safety procedures, crisis and behavioral interventions, program policies and procedures, and program rules.
  • With TAY Services Director, provide ongoing supervision to assigned staff through written and verbal feedback, performance evaluations, as well as conducting corrective actions when needed.
  • Assist and support in processing client behavior.
  • Assist in managing safety and health functions within the facility.
  • Assist in urinalysis testing.
  • Monitors client performance in their social engagement in the milieu aspect of their treatment.
  • Attends treatment team staffing, privileges determination and provide information on client behavior and progress.
  • Participate in milieu training and education activities.
  • Monitors compliance with VOA Policies and Procedures, DBH Standards, Medicaid Regulations, and CARF.
  • Willingness to develop strong relationships, and ability to demonstrate patience, compassion, and empathy for families.
  • Assist in the orientation of newly admitted clients to program.
  • Ability to identify and assess a client’s specific behavior patterns and how it applies to a client’s behavior in the milieu.
  • Ability to function and effectively communicate in an interdisciplinary team approach.
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of the roles, needs, and services of youth in the day treatment program and their families. Will demonstrate strong initiative in developing this knowledge through individual research, effective partnerships with clinicians and counselors, and participation in trainings on topics relevant to co-occurring care at the program, agency, and community levels.
  • Provide care coordination to link youth and families to resources that will improve health (utilities, rent, clothing, food, furniture, health, and mental health needs, etc.).
  • Functions as a member of the clinical team and works collaboratively with all treatment team members to ensure assessments, treatment plans, and case plans are complete and effective.
  • Attend assigned trainings to build skills and competencies related to substance use services.
  • Document services provided to clients, including support groups, educational workshops, case management, and therapeutic services for all enrolled clients.
  • Completes clinical documentation as mandated by agency policies, Medicaid regulations, CARF standards and the Division of Behavioral Health grant conditions.
