About The Position

Supply Chain Engineering Internship- Summer 2026 Hy-Vee, Inc. is a progressive company focused on retail. To support retail we must continuously review our supply chain practices to ensure we are operating as efficiently as possible while maintaining excellent customer service to our stores and ultimately our customers. We have openings for interns in our warehouse and manufacturing operations. The positions will be located in Chariton, Cherokee and Des Moines, Iowa. The timeframe is approximately May 18th to August 14th, 2026. This Monday through Friday opportunity will be 40 hours per week. This internship is part of the Hy-Vee Supply Chain Internship program, which includes tours of Hy-Vee’s facilities, organized networking opportunities, and a final presentation to Hy-Vee Supply Chain leadership.

Requirements

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with team leadership and teamwork, especially outside the classroom
  • Skilled in the following applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and written
  • Ability to identify problems, develop and execute solutions
  • Ability to work with basic engineering and mathematical concepts and principles, applying them to practical situations
  • Ability to be successful in a fast-paced environment
  • Relationship-building skills
  • Qualifications include working toward, or recently acquired, a degree in Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize Lean and continuous improvement concepts to improve safety, efficiency, and quality in processes at the manufacturing plant or distribution center
  • Document elemental breakdown of all job tasks for use in standard work, standard operating procedures, and training
  • Performs process analysis to determine productivity barriers; recommend and assist in implementing solutions for removing the barriers.
  • Works closely with plant leadership on continuous improvement opportunities and value stream mapping
  • Evaluate labor productivity utilizing labor management tools.
  • Assist in the maintenance of engineered labor standards.
  • Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine workflow processes, staff requirements, line balancing, root causes issues, etc.
