About the Role We are seeking a Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) to strengthen our external manufacturing network that supports our metals service center and value-added processing model. This hybrid position can be located in any of the following locations: Bolingbrook IL, Temperance MI, or Houston TX. Targeted compensation: $85-120k/year based on level of experience. This role focuses on ensuring that customer requirements (blueprints, specifications, and standards) are effectively executed by our suppliers through robust process capability, quality systems, and continuous improvement. You will play a key role in supporting our vertical integration strategy, partnering closely with Supply Chain to qualify, develop, and improve our supplier base in support of OEM and Tier 1 customers.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing engineering, or quality systems
  • Experience auditing suppliers in machining, fabrication, or metals processing
  • Strong knowledge of: ISO 9001 Root cause and corrective action Process capability and SPC
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer. Sponsorship for work authorization (e.g., H-1B, green card, etc.) is not available.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site audits to evaluate supplier quality systems and manufacturing capabilities
  • Assess machining, fabrication, and inspection processes
  • Review supplier documentation including: Production Part Approval Process (PPAPs) Control Plans First Article Inspections
  • Monitor supplier performance (quality, delivery, responsiveness)
  • Lead corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support supplier selection, consolidation, and strategic sourcing decisions
  • Partner cross-functionally to reduce supplier-driven risk and variability
