The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for shipping and receiving activities under the direction of the Warehouse Manager. This position supports achievement of Annual Operating Plan (AOP), Variable Direct Cost (VDC), and Fixed Production Cost (FPC) targets while ensuring compliance with Del Monte policies and procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), employee safety standards, quality requirements, and food safety systems. The Shipping Supervisor leads hourly employees in shipping, receiving, inventory accuracy, and finished goods movement to ensure products are shipped accurately, efficiently, safely, and on time.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Previous supervisory experience required.
  • 3–5 years of shipping, receiving, warehouse, logistics, or inventory control experience preferred.
  • Ability to supervise and lead employees in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize work, and manage competing deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory control, and shipping processes.
  • Knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, food safety systems, and safety requirements.
  • Working knowledge of plant equipment, powered industrial vehicles, and safe operating practices.
  • Ability to identify normal versus abnormal operating conditions and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to work weekends, overtime, and shift schedules as needed.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to lead others and work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Food Science, Agricultural Sciences, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Previous experience in a food manufacturing or food processing environment preferred.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, production flow, and loss reduction concepts.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and warehouse management systems.
  • Experience working with trucking companies, rail carriers, and customer service teams.
  • Familiarity with GFSI programs such as BRCGS or SQF preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills are beneficial, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise hourly employees to achieve shipping and receiving targets.
  • Coordinate and oversee shipping activities for trade and transfer orders.
  • Ensure customer orders are completed accurately, efficiently, and on time.
  • Work closely with Warehouse Management, Corporate Customer Service, and Regional Customer Service teams to support shipping priorities and customer requirements.
  • Supervise inbound and outbound freight activities, including trucks, railcars, and finished goods movement.
  • Maintain accurate shipping documentation, bills of lading, manifests, receiving records, and inventory transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with company shipping procedures and inventory control processes.
  • Maintain a strong pre-shipment inspection process to prevent incorrect stock shipments.
  • Participate in annual physical finished goods inventory in partnership with Inventory Control leadership.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate warehouse inventory records and stock rotation practices.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop hourly shipping and receiving employees.
  • Maintain effective employee relations to improve motivation, teamwork, productivity, and retention.
  • Support staffing plans, overtime coverage, scheduling, and labor utilization within the department.
  • Participate in employee performance management, discipline, coaching, and development activities.
  • Promote continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles throughout the department.
  • Conduct employee communication, safety, and department meetings as needed.
  • Utilize GMP, safety, environmental, and food safety programs to ensure compliance with Del Monte, local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Ensure product safety through development, review, and enforcement of company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate food safety and regulatory standards.
  • Review and enforce company quality standards established by facility, regional, and corporate quality teams.
  • Ensure employees are properly trained in safe work practices, powered industrial equipment operation, and shipping procedures.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
