About The Position

This position is a training position for hog buying. In this role, you will begin work in the livestock receiving alleys at the plant. Responsibilities include: Sorting, counting, weighing, tattooing, permanently identifying, and penning livestock according to segregation programs. Training with hog buyers in the field. Providing vacation relief for hog buyers after adequate training. Managing the scheduling of livestock deliveries at the plant in the later stages of training. Upon completing the program, you should be qualified to apply for openings in hog buying. This role involves learning: Tyson Hog Procurement Programs. Carcass merit. Harvest sheet information. Weight docks. Other buying procedures.

Requirements

  • Education A Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture or a livestock production background is required. Candidates graduating in May 2026 will be considered, with employment contingent upon completing their degree.
  • Experience Livestock experience is strongly preferred.
  • Computer Skills Basic computer skills required.
  • Communication Skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Professional phone skills are a must.
  • Special Skills Detail-oriented with accurate record-keeping skills.
  • Travel Must be available for overnight travel as needed.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities Limited supervision responsibilities may be required.
  • Work Environment Must wear safety equipment: a hard hat, steel-toe boots, and hearing protection. Work area temperature will vary depending on the season.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS Bending: Minimal bending required, depending on the ability to maneuver livestock using Tyson SOP. Lifting: Minimal lifting required; using livestock driving tools and equipment to permanently identify livestock, each weighing less than 5 pounds. Grasping: Full-hand grasp is needed to handle driving tools, tattoo equipment, and gates. Standing: Required to stand or walk for the entire shift. Force: Moderate to heavy force may be needed to assist with compromised hogs.
  • Must understand and adhere to Tyson’s SOPs for animal handling, safety, and USDA regulations.
  • The Supervisor Trainer will ensure the team member is kept up to date with job functions and responsibilities.
  • Must complete all necessary qualifications for the assigned role.
  • Priority consideration will be given to applicants at this facility, as well as priority for internal candidates impacted due to plant closure or job elimination.
