About The Position

The Supervisor, Respiratory Therapy oversees the daily operations of the Respiratory Therapy department, ensuring adherence to departmental and facility policies, procedures, and protocols. This role is responsible for supervising staff, managing resources, and performing clinical duties as necessary. The Supervisor supports the team in delivering safe and effective respiratory care, provides guidance to staff, and fosters a collaborative environment to achieve departmental goals.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree or higher preferred
  • 1-2 years of related experience in the profession required
  • 1-2 years of previous leadership experience preferred
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and manage cross-functional relationships.
  • Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with leadership, team members, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively with others, delegate responsibilities, and independently manage tasks while meeting established deadlines.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • In depth knowledge of industry best practices and regulatory compliance (if applicable).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Google and Microsoft platforms, healthcare software systems, and data analysis tools.
  • RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist required
  • RCP - Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support required

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervises daily operations of the Respiratory Therapy department, including workload assignments, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure effective and efficient patient care.
  • Conducts performance evaluations, assesses staff competencies, and provides ongoing training and development to maintain high standards of clinical practice.
  • Ensures accurate and timely reporting of payroll, monitors departmental budget, and demonstrates fiscal accountability for resources.
  • Maintains knowledge of departmental policies and protocols and enforces compliance among staff to promote safety and quality standards.
  • Performs patient assessments, administers prescribed therapies, and adheres to respiratory protocols to maintain patient comfort and safety.
  • Manages crisis situations and demonstrates sound judgment in ventilator management, airway maintenance, and medication delivery.
  • Acts as a clinical resource for team members, offering guidance and support to ensure adherence to best practices and quality patient care.
  • Communicates and supports the hospital's mission, vision, and values, fostering a positive work environment aligned with departmental goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Supervises, trains and oversees departmental staff.
  • Schedules employees to ensure effective use of resources. Consults with Manager or Director on staffing issues.
  • Assists with and contributes to performance evaluations and goal setting.
  • Assists in managing departmental budget ensuring cost-effective operations while maintain high quality service.
  • Monitors expenditures, ensuring cost-effective delivery of services.
  • May contribute to evaluation and implementation of new technologies to enhance operational efficiency.
  • May contribute to development of departmental policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies.
  • May participate in audits, inspections and accreditation processes as applicable.
  • Follows established quality control practices to ensure accuracy, consistency and safety.
  • Works closely with leadership teams to coordinate and improve service delivery.
  • Stays up-to-date with industry advancements, new technologies, and regulatory changes.
  • May work in a staff role, when required. Ensures that duties and responsibilities are fulfilled while meeting all competencies established for that job.
