Under the administrative direction of the Directory of Ancillary Services and the medical direction of qualified radiologist, is responsible for performing radiologic exams as ordered by attending physician. Complies with all federal, state, and regulatory requirements while maintaining the confidentiality of protected health information. Work assignments will require patient involvement with all age populations including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. In addition, leads the staff of the Radiology department. Essential Position Responsibilities • The essential position responsibilities are the basis for the 90 day and annual evaluation. Plans, organizes and directs the radiologic activities of the imaging department in accordance accreditation. Organizations, federal, state and local regulations, organizational and departmental policies and procedures. 2. Responsible for the technical aspects of radiology safety within the organization 3. Maintains active quality control programs for imaging services. 4. Monitors technical exactness and quality of exams. 5. Acts as the liaison between the organization and the Radiologist, communicates on a regular basis and resolves issues timely. 6. Provides age appropriate quality of care. 7. Observes patient confidentiality. 8. Respects and protects patients’ legal rights. 9. Greets customers in warm, hospitable manner. Presents an accommodating and receptive manner to our patients demonstrating a willingness to do whatever is necessary to meet their needs. 10. Prepares and posts departmental shift schedule monthly. 11. Conducts regular department meetings to ensure personnel are well informed of changes to department and organizational policies and procedures. 12. Interacts with other management personnel to develop the strategic plan. 13. Develops and implements departmental policies and procedures. 14. Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent personnel. 15. Evaluates the qualifications and competence of departmental personnel in accordance with time frames established by the organization. 16. Responsible for the orientation and continuing education of department personnel. 17. Reviews and approves departmental hours to be paid and provides justification for biweekly productivity report. 18. Coordinates and participates in continuing education. 19. Makes recommendations to Administration for and assists in the development of new programs and research for special projects. 20. Responsible for the assessment and maintenance of the departmental performance improvement program. 21. Makes recommendations for space and other resources needed by the department and maintains an efficient, clean and safe working environment. 22. Prepares departmental annual operating budget and capital equipment budget, and operates department expenditures within approved budget. 23. Regularly attends department director meetings and assigned committee meetings and chairs meeting when appropriate. 24. Uses constructive, fair, and consistent methods to counsel and discipline employees. 25. Assigns duties in accordance with the employees’ educational preparation, and skill level. 26. Interviews potential candidates and makes recommendations regarding the employment and/or recruitment of personnel using an objective selection process. 27. Assist staff with problem solving and identification of additional solutions. 28. Safely transports patient to and from area radiologic exam is performed. 29. Checks order for services to assure correct exam has been scheduled, pre-exam instructions followed and contrast media (if applicable) has been administered appropriately before proceeding with exam. 30. Obtains and/or verifies the appropriate authorization has been received from patient and discusses possible risks associated with procedure (if applicable) before performing exam. 31. Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties, providing explanation of exam to be performed and answering patient questions related to the process. 32. Prepares patient for radiological procedure by positioning patient; adjusting immobilization devices; moving equipment into specified position; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors. 33. Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient and technologist shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors. 34. Wears assigned dosimeter monitor badge(s) during the performance of all radiologic examinations to facilitate the measurement of cumulative radiation doses. 35. Protects patients and employees by adhering to departmental and hospital safety and infection control policies and protocols. 36. Responds quickly and appropriately to adverse patient reactions to contrast media, loss of consciousness and cardiac or respiratory arrest. 37. Ensures the integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of patient exams and reported results. 38. Produces acceptable quantity and quality radiographs following established standards and procedures, observing radiographic results and making necessary adjustments. 39. Completes and appropriately documents assigned responsibilities. 40. Responds appropriately when STAT orders are received. 41. Communicates appropriate information to radiologists and lead radiologic technologist and physicians in a prompt and professional manner. 42. Seeks ways to improve patient care by participation in the radiology departmental and hospital performance improvement activities. 43. Coordinates and participates in continuing education and in-service requirements. 44. Reports equipment malfunctions to lead technologist promptly. Follows instructions of lead technologist before contacting equipment vendors to schedule service calls. 45. Maintains an efficient, clean, and safe working environment. 46. Responsible for the efficient and cost effective use of supplies and inventory. 47. Presents a professional and positive image in appearance by adhering to appropriate dress for department and conversing with patients and other customers in a kind, compassionate and respectful manner. 48. Operates PACS efficiently. 49. Assist with restocking depleted supplies before end of work shift. 50. Adapts effectively to changes in departmental policy and assignment of duties. 51. Communicates effectively and professionally with hospital personnel regarding conflict resolution. 52. Performs all other related assignments and special projects as requested. 53.
