Requirements

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, manage multiple priorities, and meet established deadlines under pressure.
  • Strong working knowledge of and commitment to all safety rules, regulations, and company policies; ability to model and enforce safe work practices.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of fabrication/welding experience in a metal fabrication environment and three (3) years of successful experience as a lead person or supervisor, or an associate’s degree in a related field with 3–5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Technical and operational proficiency in fabricator/welder responsibilities, including TIG, MIG, flux-core, sub-arc, and spot-welding techniques; ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, specifications, and applicable ASME codes.
  • Experience using power and hand tools, fork trucks, and overhead cranes in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and math skills, including proficiency with fractions and decimals; ability to read, write, and perform basic calculations.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow and enforce procedures, work instructions, quality standards, and safety requirements with a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Effective reasoning and problem-solving skills, with the ability to carry out written and verbal instructions and resolve issues with employees, vendors, and customers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to instruct, demonstrate, coach, and mentor employees in all aspects of their job duties and performance expectations.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to use software applications for communication, documentation, and administrative tasks.
  • High degree of attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports to determine production requirement and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs.
  • Confer with other department supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.
  • Plan and establish with leads, work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
  • Plan, schedule and assign job projects to vessel plant employees, supervising all aspects of the project until completion to assure quality, efficiency and safety standards are met or surpassed in a timely manner.
  • Inspect materials, products, and/or equipment to detect defects and malfunctions.
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, job orders, and company policies and procedures for employees.
  • Maintain operations data, such as time, production, and cost records and prepare management reports of production results.
  • Recommend or implement measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality or efficiency.
  • Requisition materials, supplies, equipment, parts or repair services.
  • Recommend personnel actions such as hiring, promotions and SBC. Discipline or recommend discipline as needed.
  • Work with local Trainer for initial job training, cross training, and continued career development of personnel.
  • Conducts new hire general shop/equipment safety training.
  • Administers welding tests to assess skills of job applicants.
  • Determine machinery and equipment malfunction and request assistance from the maintenance department.
  • Sets up and operates machines/equipment to make test runs.
  • Inspects work in progress and is responsible for the quality of products produced by 1st shift. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Responsible to ensure employees maintain clean and orderly work areas following all established safety rules and procedures.
  • Actively support and lead safety committee efforts by participating in meetings, promoting employee engagement, and reinforcing a proactive, team-based safety culture.
  • Support and lead NCR resolution efforts by investigating root causes, implementing corrective actions, and ensuring timely closure in coordination with Quality, Engineering, and Operations.
  • Accountable for leading continuous improvement efforts, including identifying root causes, implementing sustainable improvements, and monitoring results to ensure effectiveness.
  • Enforce all SPVG policies.
