About The Position

The Supervisor, Plant Operations leads day-to-day operations of facility systems to ensure a safe, reliable, and compliant environment for patients, visitors, and colleagues. This role plans and supervises corrective and preventive maintenance, coordinates vendors and contractors, manages shift coverage and emergency response, and ensures documentation and regulatory readiness. The Supervisor partners closely with Clinical Engineering, Safety, Security, and Infection Prevention to support patient care operations and minimize downtime.

Requirements

  • Experience: 5+ years in healthcare or mission-critical facilities maintenance, with 2+ years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Technical Knowledge: Working proficiency in HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, medical gas systems, building automation/controls, and fire/life safety systems.
  • CMMS: Proficient with a computerized maintenance management system (e.g., Nuvolo, TMS, Maximo, eMaint, or similar).
  • Compliance: Demonstrated experience supporting Joint Commission/AHCA surveys and adherence to NFPA/OSHA standards.
  • Communication: Strong verbal/written communication; able to coordinate across clinical and non-clinical teams and vendors.
  • Availability: Able to work on-site, support rotating on-call, and respond to after-hours emergencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or technical diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Technology, Facilities Engineering, or related field.
  • Certifications: CHFM, CPE, CPO, EPA 608 Universal, OSHA 30, ASSE 6010/6040 familiarity, NICET (fire alarm) a plus.
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (Tridium Niagara or similar) and energy management.
  • Prior hospital/healthcare facilities experience in Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Operations & Maintenance Oversee daily operations of building systems (HVAC, boilers, chillers, plumbing, medical gas distribution, electrical, fire/life safety) to meet uptime and environmental standards. Plan, prioritize, and assign work orders; ensure timely execution of PMs and corrective maintenance using the CMMS. Conduct routine rounds, inspections, and quality checks; verify system readings and trends and escalate anomalies.
  • Safety, Compliance & Documentation Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., Joint Commission/EC, NFPA 70/99/101, OSHA, AHCA regulations) and support surveys/audits. Maintain accurate logs, permits, test records, and documentation for regulatory readiness and internal audits. Lead LOTO adherence, hot work permits, confined space, and other high-risk work controls; conduct toolbox talks and safety observations.
  • Team Leadership & Coverage Supervise and develop a team of technicians; provide scheduling, coaching, performance feedback, and training. Coordinate shift handoffs, on-call coverage, and emergency response; serve as incident lead for utility failures and severe weather events. Foster a culture of accountability, patient-first service, and continuous improvement.
  • Vendor & Project Coordination Coordinate contractors for PMs, repairs, inspections, and minor projects; verify scope, permits, safety, and closeout documentation. Partner with Engineering/Construction on planned shutdowns and tie-ins; communicate impacts and contingency plans. Monitor vendor performance, SLAs, and warranty adherence.
  • Financial Stewardship & Inventory Monitor overtime, labor distribution, and parts usage against budget; recommend cost-saving measures. Oversee critical spares and consumables; ensure secure, organized stockrooms and accurate inventory records. Validate invoices and service reports prior to approval.
  • KPI Management & Reporting Track and report on: PM completion rates, response times by priority, backlog aging, downtime events, work quality/rework, and compliance actions. Identify trends and lead root cause analysis; implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Prepare weekly operations updates and monthly KPI dashboards.
