Requirements

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, 2 of which should be in a leadership capacity
  • Analytical/problem solving ability necessary to participate in the development of department procedures and goals
  • Participate in the analyses of operational problem and proposals and direct inventory control
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of hospital personnel, communicate with vendors, and cooperate with the nursing and medical staffs
  • Supervisory skills necessary to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct the activities of both professional and non-professional employees
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner to manage multiple projects
  • Personal computer skills
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required

Responsibilities

  • Oversee purchasing and inventory control to maintain optimal stock levels, reduce costs, and ensure DEA compliance for controlled substances.
  • Facilitate clear and consistent communication among departmental and hospital staff to support effective pharmacy operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies including JCAHO, FDA, DEA, and OSHA through regular monitoring and adherence to standards.
  • Supervise pharmacy personnel to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality pharmaceutical services in both centralized and decentralized settings.
  • Support recruitment, orientation, performance evaluation, and disciplinary processes in collaboration with the Pharmacy Director.
  • Stay current on industry trends and regulatory updates through education, professional engagement, and peer networking.
  • Provide training and competency assessments for pharmacy staff, while encouraging professional development and recognizing individual strengths.
  • Contribute to the creation and enforcement of departmental policies and procedures that support efficient, compliant operations.
  • Manage staffing and scheduling to ensure adequate coverage, maintain patient safety, and adapt to fluctuations in workload.
  • Direct the preparation, packaging, and distribution of medications while identifying opportunities to improve quality and operational efficiency.
