About The Position

This position plays a critical finance/treasury leadership and subject matter expert role within the Washington Education Association (WEA) organizational structure, including support to our Budget & Finance Committee, WEA Board, and our national organization. It combines the primary need for financial/treasury/accounting acumen along with some experience in analytical/technical knowledge of various systems/databases and membership processing. This position is responsible for supervising the collection, reconciliation, cash allocation, and accounting of all dues for the WEA - $55M annually, along with leading systems development and reporting of dues and membership data as it relates to WEA members, represented employees, affiliates, and allies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or finance.
  • 6 years of working experience in an accounting/treasury organization.
  • 3 years of experience as the lead manager for financial audits.
  • A thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Direct relationship manager responsibility for financial institutions and lockbox operations.
  • Extensive experience managing complex databases, collection systems, and reporting tools (e.g., SQL, Salesforce, Tableau, Cognos, etc.).
  • Proven ability to lead teams within an organization and cross functionally to implement process/system changes in a transparent and collegial spirit ensuring all team members are valued.
  • Ability to foster strong working relationships at all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders, particularly external auditors and financial institutions.
  • Effective communications with our auditor is a critical skill.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the dues collection process including the accounting for all funds, timely/accurate reconciliation, and distribution of funds.
  • Oversight responsibility for external financial audits, ensuring processes and controls are documented and followed.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for WEA dues development methodologies, development of WEA annual dues proposals, along with set-up and communication of annual dues to our field offices and school districts.
  • Manage complex membership processing, reporting, and data collection for 85,000 members and hundreds of UniServ/Local affiliates.
  • Leadership role for system changes involving membership and dues data, working with headquarters and field staff, including the development of new reports and data queries.
  • Co-liaison to the National Education Association (NEA) for our membership processing system (Salesforce - NEA360); responsible for maintaining state level configuration and case management queries.
  • Staff advisor to the WEA Representative Assembly Credentials Work Team with the responsibility for leading delegate registration processes and upholding WEA’s commitment to racial and social justice.
  • This role will have significant responsibility for implementing and transitioning membership dues collections to electronic funds transfers (EFT)/Credit Card payments.
  • Oversee weekly wire transfers and lockbox operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
