About The Position

Under the supervision of the Facilities Director, the Supervisor of Custodial Operations is responsible for the overall management, supervision, and quality control of housekeeping operations across assigned facilities. This position provides direct leadership to the Assistant Crew Supervisor and oversees Swept FREE Crew Members to ensure all facilities are maintained in a clean, sanitary, safe, and compliant manner. The Supervisor of Custodial Operations monitors staff performance, creates schedules, provides training, and leads supply management, safety compliance, and continuous quality improvement. This role ensures all housekeeping services meet established standards, site-specific requirements, and applicable OSHA and environmental safety regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Additional supervisory or facilities-related education preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in janitorial/custodial or facilities maintenance required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or management experience required
  • Knowledge of basic carpentry, wallboard repair, painting, plumbing, and electricity
  • Proficient with mobile technology, apps, adding photos, etc.
  • Strong leadership and staff management skills
  • Knowledge of commercial cleaning practices, equipment, and floor care including stripping, waxing, and polishing.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations
  • Strong scheduling and problem-solving skills
  • Effective interpersonal, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work across multiple sites and environments
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams with flexibility and professionalism
  • Valid Driver’s License and satisfy criteria to be a driver for the organization required
  • Available to assist during inclement weather and emergency situations as needed

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily housekeeping operations across all assigned sites to ensure consistent cleanliness, safety, and quality standards.
  • Establishes and enforces cleaning schedules, procedures, and site-specific parameters.
  • Responds to escalated or emergency cleaning situations and ensures timely resolution.
  • Conducts routine inspections of facilities to assess cleanliness, safety, and compliance.
  • Ensures proper use, storage, and handling of cleaning products and equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and OSHA regulations.
  • Ensures hazardous cleaning products are never combined and that safety protocols are strictly followed.
  • Interviews, hires, develops and retains high quality staff.
  • Supervises, trains, evaluates, and observes assigned staff.
  • Oversees Crew Leads and housekeeping staff, including Swept FREE Crew Members, in coordination with the Assistant Crew Supervisor.
  • Assigns tasks and ensures adequate staffing coverage for all shifts and locations.
  • Ensures staff are properly trained, supported, and held accountable for job performance.
  • Participates in hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations of housekeeping staff.
  • Provides leadership coverage during emergencies or staffing shortages as needed.
  • Reviews and approves weekly staff schedules prepared by the Assistant Crew Supervisor.
  • Ensures staffing levels align with operational needs and site requirements.
  • Monitors attendance, timekeeping, and coverage to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Oversees supply inventory management, ordering, and cost control.
  • Ensures housekeeping supplies and equipment are properly maintained, stored securely, and available as needed.
  • Reviews inventory reports and identifies opportunities for efficiency and cost savings.
  • Ensures full compliance with FREE policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental safety standards.
  • Reports safety violations, incidents, and hazards to the Facilities Director.
  • Ensures staff complete required safety training and adhere to all safety policies.
  • Maintains familiarity with agency alarm systems and building security protocols.
  • Communicates effectively with internal stakeholders regarding housekeeping needs, issues, and resolutions.
  • Collaborates with Facilities leadership and other departments to support agency operations.
  • Ensures that all required documentation (paper and electronic) is completed /processed appropriately, in a timely manner, and meets quality and compliance thresholds.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
