About The Position

Responsible for the financial statement presentation of the District. Prepares, reviews, and analyzes financial statements and disclosures, internal reporting to senior management, monthly review analytics of funds, and Single Audit review. Responsible for deliverables required as part of the quarterly and annual financial statement audits, including analytics and preparation and review of supporting schedules. Directly supervises staff and works closely with internal and external departments and customers. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree - Accounting or Finance - Required
  • Five (5+) plus years experience in Accounting, CPA firm, Capital Project or Public Sector accounting setting - Required
  • Two (2+) plus years experience in accounting for and reconciliation of grant and general ledger projects, Single Audit production, and Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) production - Required
  • Two (2+) plus years experience researching authoritative sources and drafting cogent recommendations for accounting treatments - Required
  • High degree of integrity in handling confidential information
  • Ability to perform highly accurate, easily auditable work and meet strict deadlines
  • Self-starter/leader who can anticipate department needs in a proactive (versus, reactive) manner
  • Ability to lead a team, provide guidance, and delegate work to others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work with individuals at all different levels in the organization
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with district and school leaders, faculty, staff and students
  • Strong knowledge of public sector accounting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Ability to analyze, improve, and document processes
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with Google products including docs, sheets, slides and gmail
  • Experience with Oracle or other ERP system

Responsibilities

  • Manages the preparation of the District’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report(ACFR) and Single Audit to include performing necessary procedures for year-end reporting and preparing audit schedules for assigned funds
  • Researches and provides general customer service and explanations regarding complex or quantitative analysis to others related to accounts, ledgers, funds, and general accounting methodology
  • Establishes and maintains procedures for accounting for assigned funds and projects and performs accounting tasks pertaining to the general ledger, debt issuance for capital projects, and grant accounting
  • Reviews the reconciliation of District bank accounts and balance sheet accounts, including researching and correcting discrepancies between District records and other sources
  • Reviews roll forward schedules for cash, debt and grant related activities; reviews, researches, and prepares original journal entries to record financial data in the general ledger and sub-ledgers as deemed necessary, including investments and wires; and reviews journal entries submitted by other District departments, researches and revises as necessary
  • Performs budget to actual reconciliation and analysis
  • Researches and documents recommendations on governmental accounting standards, new pronouncements, and proposed accounting treatments
  • Supervises, directs, and motivates various accounting roles
