About The Position

This position is responsible for planning, directing, and managing the accounting receivables, cash handling, banking services, and the financial aid disbursement process of the college, LSC Bookstore, and LSC Café. This position manages incoming revenues for the college of approximately $35 million annually. This position ensures cash collected is properly safeguarded, and ensures compliance with federal, state and Minnesota state regulations. They are responsible for ensuring proper segregation of duties and cash handling controls are in place. This includes responsibility for completing internal financial control documentation for auxiliary units and revenue procedures, sales tax processing, as well as responding to audit requests regarding these areas. Incumbent is responsible for applying these policies in directing the daily accounts receivable and cash flow operations of the college and supervises employees engaged in these functions. The person in this position is responsible for ensuring internal control structure and responding to audit requests and responses for auxiliary and cashiering functions in the college. Responsible for monitoring and overseeing the financial aid disbursement process.

Requirements

  • 1 year professional or 3 years of technical/administration experience or equivalent experience in these areas
  • Professional knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and standards, including GAAP and fund accounting
  • Experience as a supervisor, team lead, lead worker, or project lead directing a diverse team
  • Ability to work with others to promote an attitude of teamwork and mutual benefit
  • Strong verbal and written skills sufficient to write, prepare, and edit memos, procedures, reports, presentations, and to clearly explain, discuss, communicate, and present technical ideas and procedures to staff at all levels of the organization
  • Computer skills including spreadsheets, word processing and databases
  • Ability to set priorities and handle multiple tasks with timelines, ability to delegate as appropriate, critical thinking skills sufficient to analyze and interpret accounting processes
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with persons from diverse backgrounds, and commitment to diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field
  • Professional level experience with administering cash handling processes
  • Experience with and understanding of Minnesota State Government and MinnState business and academic software systems, i.e., State of Minnesota and MinnState computer applications and their interrelationships
  • Ability to create queries and generate reports
  • Higher Education accounts receivable experience
  • Reconciling experience
