About The Position

The Superintendent provides oversight to the school leadership to ensure success in all Performance Academies School Systems. First and foremost, he or she oversees the school leadership to recruit and retain a full student enrollment throughout the year. With full enrollment, the Superintendent also ensures a quality educational experience for all students.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree
  • Satisfactory completion of federal and state required criminal history checks
  • At least 5 years of successful teaching experience
  • Experience with data analysis
  • Willing to pursue Ohio Superintendent licensure
  • Curriculum and Instruction knowledge and experience
  • At least three years in a supervisory or management role
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Google Docs, MS Office Suite, e-mail, and internet

Responsibilities

  • Serves as Superintendent of record for assigned schools.
  • On-site visits/direct supervision of assigned PA schools as required by CEO, Chief Academic Officer, Chief of Staff and Chief Operating Officer.
  • Regularly reviews and communicates data in assigned schools and demonstrates a deep knowledge of all school and building-level data in all subject areas in order to effectively set priorities for improving student achievement.
  • Articulates and promotes high expectations for teaching, student learning, and student behavior, and successfully monitors and holds accountable building leaders and teachers in these areas.
  • Supports and monitors activities that embody the vision and mission of Performance Academies schools through the alignment of educational programs, plans, and actions while maintaining a focus on state standards.
  • Holds building leaders accountable by regularly monitoring and providing feedback and implementing corrective actions when necessary regarding academic, fitness, and behavioral outcomes in the schools he/she oversees.
  • Regularly conducts formal principal evaluations, teacher evaluations, classroom and fitness walk-throughs and completes the building walkthrough as well as provides feedback to those being formally evaluated by given deadline.
  • Oversees and monitors and provides regular feedback to school leaders with respect to BLT, TBT, DLT and PLC processes and quality of those processes for all assigned schools.
  • Ensure that all schools are on track for making at least a “4 star” or higher or equivalent state measure annually and ensure that all schools meet or exceed the standards to qualify for Quality Charter School status annually.
  • Assist with curriculum, materials, and resource procurement and record keeping as needed.
  • Regularly provide clear and concise photographs and content of all school events and milestones that could potentially be utilized in print and/or online formats to recognize our schools, staff and families.
  • Attend all management and board meetings, give reports at Board meetings as required.
  • Provide regular, meaningful feedback to the CAO, COS, COO, and CEO regarding schools’ status and progress in all areas of schools design, such as curriculum, governance, leadership, special education, finance, fitness instruction, student achievement, assessment, as well as compliance with school policies and procedures.
  • Provides leadership for assessing, developing and improving the school environment and the PA culture and mission in the buildings he/she oversees.
  • Recruits, interviews and hires teachers and staff who support quality instruction.
  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned schools are fully staffed and that a plan is created and in place for coverage when a vacancy exists.
  • Provides leadership, encouragement, opportunities, and structure for all staff to continually design teaching that is more effective and learning experiences for all students.
  • Evaluates staff in conjunction with school leaders and provides direction for improving instruction.
  • Attend, present and plan for all principals’ meetings as required.
  • Prepare for and present at professional development and in-services for teachers, intervention specialists, and other staff to improve student learning.
  • Demonstrates awareness of professional issues and developments in education.
  • Ensures and monitors school leaders and staff so they follow all proper procedures and policies pertaining to student assessment, privacy, and data reporting.
  • Ensures instructional staff of assigned schools have completed required training.
  • Develops and revises as needed his/her own professional development plan for continued improved performance.
  • Regularly monitors and helps to increase student enrollment and organizational growth.
  • Ensures that all assigned schools are on track to meet and maintain annual enrollment goals by actively monitoring, planning and participating in school based enrollment activities.
  • Provides oversight of the office managers related to student enrollment and to ensure accurate student records are kept in all data systems.
  • Assists school leaders and office staff for proper FTE, EMIS and enrollment reporting and activities.
  • Effectively manages Board policies and procedures.
  • Oversees student discipline, follows the Code of Conduct and supports as well as handles parent relations/complaints and student issues.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills with a variety of stakeholders in the operation of the school.
  • Is responsible for all compliance monitoring and communication and reporting with ODE.
  • Actively monitors online and social media content as it pertains to PA.
  • Be fiscally responsible for resources, maintain appropriate documentation for records as appropriate, such as following proper reimbursement requests and procedures in concert with the Treasurer.
  • Identifies facilities concerns related to maintenance and communicates with the Facilities Director.
  • Stays current on and understands all policies outlined in staff handbook and student handbook/code of conduct.
  • Engages the community to create shared responsibility for student and school success.
  • Promotes and supports parent, student, and community involvement and actively plans and participates in school events.
  • Creates strong relationships with parents beyond managing escalated issues by actively communicating directly with families.
  • Connects students and families to the health, human and social services they need to stay focused on learning.
  • Serves as an effective spokesperson for the welfare of all members of the learning community.
  • Promotes respect for diversity in the school and community environment.
  • Engages in dialogue with other decision-makers to improve teaching and learning.
  • Communicates clearly to the community about building issues and performances.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief of Staff, Chief Academic Officer, and Chief Operating Officer and CEO.
