About The Position

About Us: Upward Bound Math and Science is a high school, college prep program that provides academic enrichment, retention services, post-secondary preparation, and a summer residential program to low-income and first-generation students. The goal of the program is to help students recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and science (social, tech, health, environmental, etc.) while providing a fun, exciting summer experience to our students! We are looking for passionate individuals to join our team as a Summer Program Assistant! Students attend our residential summer program for 5 weeks on campus and 1 week on a Classroom on the Road trip! Staff live in the dorms to help provide educational, recreational, and social activities and supervision to help students experience what life is like in college. Think summer camp meets college prep! No STEM experience required. Summer Program Assistants will be provided housing for the entirety of the summer program on campus, as well as provided meals during the scheduled programming. Dates: Summer Staff Training: June 1st, 2026 - June 5th, 2026 Summer Residential Program: June 7th, 2026 - July 17th, 2026

Requirements

  • Minimum of undergraduate with a 2.5 GPA or above on a 4.0 scale
  • One year of experience working with underrepresented students
  • Sensitivity and awareness of program participants
  • Enjoys being in the company of high school students
  • Ability to live on campus and participate for the entirety of the summer program
  • Willingness and ability to support high school students' academics, recreation, physical, and emotional wellbeing
  • Energetic and positive personality
  • Patient, reliable, punctual, and have good communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with residential programs preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise program participants, ensuring they are at each scheduled activity
  • Plans, leads, and implements activities with 9th - 12th grade students
  • Provides high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for participants
  • Support and supervise students to ensure their safety, development, growth, and wellbeing
  • Support students in completing homework during study tables
  • Assists in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, attendance, and sign in/sign out sheets
  • Know and understand emergency procedures associated with summer program
  • Participate in team meetings
  • Proactively communicate with Upward Bound Math and Science staff about any questions
