About The Position

TRIO Upward Bound Temporary Instructors are appointed for the Upward Bound summer program. The primary duty is to provide effective teaching of core content courses to engage students in hands-on activities that will require critical thinking and/or labs in the qualified discipline.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in discipline related to areas required for summer courses
  • Experience working with diverse populations—low-income, first-generation, students of color, and/or disabled students is required.
  • Unofficial transcripts may be attached to this application. Official transcripts must be sent to Human Resources upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Desired Instruction areas (not limited to): Science, Mathematics

Responsibilities

  • Providing instruction curriculum with a team of instructors.
  • Maintaining accurate course description information (syllabus and lesson plans).
  • Completing required reports, administer pre-and post-tests, supervise and provide instructional assistance to student study groups, and other duties assigned by TRIO Upward Bound Advisor, and Project Director.
  • Creating and implementing a syllabus for the appropriate subject (template provided).
  • Building curriculum using guidelines from the TRIO Upward Bound Program Advisor.
  • Providing a list of classroom supplies as needed to Program Director.
  • Providing interactive classroom and lab instruction (if needed).
  • Monitoring and recording student performance on a weekly basis (grade sheet template provided)
  • Participating in the summer instructor orientation, all pre-program preparation meetings.
  • Establishing a positive, safe, and motivating classroom environment.
