ABOUT THIS POSITION Role Summary Waystar is seeking a Summer Intern – AI Agents to help design, prototype, and test AI agents that support People Team workflows such as learning enablement, onboarding support, internal knowledge access, and operational efficiency. This role blends technical experimentation with curiosity about how people work, learn, and make decisions. About the Team The Waystar People Team creates exceptional team member experiences by hiring, developing, and supporting talent in ways that unlock potential and enable business results. The team is focused on building scalable, future-ready people solutions, including responsibly enabling Generative AI to improve how work gets done. WHAT YOU'LL DO

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Learning Sciences, or a related field.
  • Foundational understanding of AI or machine learning concepts.
  • Interest in or experience with Generative AI tools or agent-based systems.
  • Strong communication skills and ethical judgment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AI frameworks or automation tools.
  • Interest in learning, talent development, or people operations.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and comfort experimenting in ambiguous spaces.
  • Hands-on experience building AI agents in an enterprise People Team context.
  • Exposure to responsible AI governance and ethics.
  • Mentorship from People Team and AI leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Design and prototype AI agents that support People Team use cases.
  • Collaborate with People Team partners to identify high-impact problems.
  • Experiment with prompt design, agent logic, and evaluation approaches.
  • Document use cases, risks, and learnings to support responsible scaling.
  • Ensure alignment with Waystar AI governance and ethical guidelines.
